Can I give you a call about lifters? I know I know! I need your phone number.

The build will be slow because I have to make payments so as long as you aren't in a hurry the sky's the limit really. I don't want it to be hard to control or anything but I plan on keeping this car forever and I keep up a rigorous maintenance schedule. In a perfect world everything would be roller. I put myself on the list for a new legend 700.As I told you years ago I had a gto with a mildly built 389. My buddy had a Mach one and he just couldn't understand why I kept flogging him when my car idled nicely and had excellent street manners while his was all out race. It was because he bought the biggest cam and the highest cfm Holley etc. and it just didn't work together. You have the Pontiac experience I don't have. If it was a small block Chevrolet I'd be building it myself. I want the best of both worlds and whatever gets me there and I will leave that to your discretion. I am comfortable in the 10ish range. Like I said I can get the heads.

So basically I am looking at about 9000 bucks for a motor that all I gotta do is put brackets and accessories on and drive

I will soon be installing the voodoo roller cam I bought from you. when I pulled my engine I found that the thrust bearing was trashed. So I had the short block redone. My builder recommended replacing the lifters since there is no good way of cleaning them out. What lifters do you recommend? I did have him modify the lifter bore while it was apart.

I normally charge $45 to do a cam, but I give forum members a discount, so I'll do it for $35, and you pay shipping both ways.

I just your messages and Paul, but didn't get any notifications. I'm going to read the springs one, and as far as the other message, I can't thank you enough, you're too kind.

    Sincerely,

    Howie

Morning Paul. Sorry to impose on your time, but you obviously exceed my knowledge of Pontiac V8's, and I'm hoping you could answer another couple of questions regarding valve selection. First, I'm unsure of the cut on the valve seats, and which valves to get. I'd like to use Ferrea 5000 series valves, but what length, given my cam selection and #62 heads? Also 7 or 10 degree locks? Regarding your recommendation to use 994 springs, is machining still required. I sold all my stock valvetrain parts. including springs, valves, retainers etc; I don't have valves to measure for length or stem size. If you don't have time to answer I fully understand, but I find when you post a public question on the forums, the variety of answers become overwhelming, and I'd rather get the info form someone who's "been there, done that"!!

    Regards,

    Howie
