- First Pontiac was a '53 Chieftain straight-8, second is my current vehicle, a '55 Chieftain 287 V8. It's the toughest car I've ever driven. Drove it through the Nevada desert in search of ghost towns. No roads, just old wagon trails, un-maintained since the 19th century. Harshest trails you've ever seen. The Chieftain never missed a beat.
