Hey John!! Great to hear from you man! Stay safe in Iraq and come home soon. The '68 I recently bought is a nice daily driver. It's a real 242 code GTO with the optional factory hideaway headlights. Its an older restoration so its not perfect... but still in pretty good shape.

    Here's a pic:

and a link to the page for a couple more pics:

It has a 400 that runs good, but its kind of slow at the moment. I'll be swapping on some ported 6x heads and a few other go-fast goodies from my parts stash to wake it up.

John, I'm an A-body guy and I honestly don't know much about leaf springs vs. the stock mono springs... I would post on the 1st gen firebird forum and get opinions from the guys who own firebirds. They won't steer you wrong.

its goin good man. how about u? well, i got my engine to a machinist and it the damage wasnt to bad. i just had to replace 4 rods and pistons and it should be ready for pickup in 2 or 3 weeks. i think im gonna have him assemble it up to a long block and im gonna do the rest... hey, real quick, do you think i should upgrade to multi leaf springs in the back? i found these heavy duty stock height leaf springs but im not sure if its a good investment and if i need a conversion kit? anyway, its good to hear from you man, hows your gto comin?
