When you get ready to redo your 15x7" Rally IIs, here are some things to consider.
How dark to you want the charcoal color to be? There are two schools of thought, light and dark. The AMES kit has the dark. Don't buy the mask kit. The cutouts are not exact fits on the raised "spokes" that are painted silver. Use masking tape and a sharp knife to mask the spokes. I did a thread in the suspension forum on restoring Rally II. http://216.178.81.108/forums/showthread.php?t=456923 . It has a lot of pictures.

If concurs showing of the car is not what you are doing, I suggest you find a 70s vintage 455 cid. You can buy these for $300.00. The advantage of a 455 is that you can put a big cam in it and get gobs of torque. I went the 455 route and then pulled my matching numbers 400 cid out. My 455 has 9.34:1 compression vice 10.75:1 for the 400. Runs well on 93 octane gas. Unless someone is a GTO expert, they won't be able to tell that it isn't the stock motor. Everything from the 400 cid will bolt onto the 455 to include the flywheel. Just make sure the crank of the 455 has the hole drilled for the pilot bearing for the M20 manual tranny.
Just a thought given you listed your '68 as without motor.

Thanks, I bought it in Aug. 01 and knew very little about where to find parts to restore it. Found out about PYears & started buying some of the bigger items so I could get started. Went to the Carlisle shows and picked up some used pieces. Started restoration spring of 02 & drove for the first time in July 03. Completed in Aug. 03. Good luck with your project ,I just kept thinking how neat it would be to drive when done to keep myself motivated. Brent

Note that we lost the driver's side exhaust tip while driving and watched it almost cart wheel into my brother's windsheild. Not to mention that Detroit's roads shook the exhaust system loose. :mad:

Actually, it is the dodge 2000 color, intense blue; they put it on pick-up trucks first; then other stuff. My '69 firebird is the 98 dodge viper blue color; they are similar but the viper blue is darker and has more metal flake in it. Thanks a lot!

68 GTO April build date orig. Cameo Ivory now custom red; black interior & top; power top, power steering, rallye gauges, 4-sp m-20, 455, am/fm stereo w/ 8-track, safe-t-track, door edge guards, custom belts, console and custom sports steering wheel.
