7,474 GTOs came with hood tach in '69, which was a much larger percentage of total production.

Gonna sound like I'm a smart ass. ..but I love it when there is a "debate" the big guns haul out their info and sources and the "audience" learns a lot. I've even taken notes on numerous threads :)

Well, I don't think there's a competition here. There are some people who have extensive experience dismantling these cars and knowing what's correct. I don't know that stuff, but I can offer the luck I've had of establishing a connection with the GM Heritage Center. If we all put out heads together, we learn more about these cars and improve the hobby for all.

I can only speak for myself, but this is what keeps us going.

Unfortunately I don't believe it survived, Jeff would know more about it's history. I think the motor for it ended up in his 69 Firebird for it's racing career.

No competition here - Diego's shared some very valuable information that goes against conventional wisdom and some long standing impressions. Nothing beats good documentation!

This was my brothers car who past away a few months ago and left me the GTO. All we are asking if anybody knows how many HO 4 speed chrome front bumper cars were made. Not looking how rare, valuable or if you like the chrome bumpers or not. The GTO will never be for sale! So who cares whats its worth.

Also trying to find out the color of the GTO, but we think we have it.

This GTO was special ordered with special ordered paint color.

Diego 02-13-2014 02:31 AM

Sorry about your brother's passing, but I don't think that number exists. It may not have even been documented by Pontiac.

Thats seems to be the what we are coming up with.

Now just to find out the paint code or color.

Are you talking about the same car that GTOLIB is asking about ?
Or is yours a different car ?

Here are the 4 more typical Special Paint colors in 68.
But not limited to these 4 ("spring colors")

Yes we are. GTOLIB and I bin great friends all my life. He is helping me with the GTO.
The GTO original color looks to be very close to British green.

Well, the GTO already had Nightshade Green, which is a very dark green.

http://thefirstgensite.com/library/p...ntiac-pg01.jpg

However, there also was a British Racing Green which was a Corvette color and I think was introduced mid-year for the Camaro.

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorli...rolet-pg01.jpg

FWIW, Sequoia Green is the same as Nightshade Green.

68gtoMN 02-15-2014 01:21 PM

Well, I would like to chime in on Night Shade Green as I own two original NSG cars -= rare color. The paint shown in the attached pictures is NOT nightshade green. Not a chance. There is MUCH too much blue (teal) in the paint. Night Shade Green was, essentially, a charcoal grey metallic with a dark green tint. I LOVE the color but this picture does not show NSG paint code V. NSG seems to "change" color depending on lighting with people citing GREEN in some conditions, GREY in others... Below are two pictures of NSG cars - one in sunlight and one under fluorescent lighting

joe'sgto 02-15-2014 08:25 PM

If the build sheet is on top of the gas tank. Do you guys think the paint code will be on that?

A GTO is a LeMans with a GTO engine....and maybe a rubber bumper after '67...lol
