sorry i have exactly what you're after in the basement, but i'd never consider selling it even though an HSD is on the engine now. Had to post this just to avoid the temptation of selling it for some much needed dollars.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHHHHHHHHh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,
I think where talking about the same car:)))))))))))))))))

takid455 12-10-2008 11:53 PM

where can you get an SD valve cover grommet. typical Ponchos have the PVC valve there. I believe the SD one is plugged. Mine had a bolt in the hole when I received the car. I can't fore see this being correct. Also, is the temp sending unit in the right head (single prong) the same for a 67 or so car w/o gauges?

Another mid73-74 engine paint formula. Matched from 1974 Valve covers that were on the engine one year.

758S 23.0 23.0 Dryer
742A 50.1 27.1 Green
721A 112.8 62.7 Blue
700A 249.6 136.8 White

The drivers side valve cover has the oil fill cap/PCV valve combination so there is no grommet used there. The passengers side uses a standard grommet for the metal tube that runs up to the air cleaner assembly. This grommet should be available here at PY. Most all pontiacs had the PCV valve located in the valley pan so that grommet in the SD engine is solid. It is also available but I do not know who sells it. Hope this helps.

johnta1 12-11-2008 11:24 AM

The valley pan has the grommet with no hole.

:)

Hey SDD:

Any interest in a 455HO / M22 A-body? My Sundance Orange '72 GTO is for sale.
Photobucket link: http://photobucket.com/1972_GTO_Sundance_Orange

Numbers matching except that it has an NOS 2270 automatic carb, LOTS of options. Good history and lots of docs. Silver award winner at the 2007 POCI Convention and the 2008 DAPA Southern Nationals. Featured in the November 2007 issue of HPP magazine.

I'm selling to join the SD ranks, as I have a deal made to purchase a nice Cameo White '74 SD T/A. Unfortunately I must sell my GTO to fund the purchase.

If you have any interest, call or e-mail me for more details. (713) 664-5118 or bell-auto@comcast.net

Thanks!

Sorry for the hi-jack guys, now back to topic.;)

takid455 12-12-2008 12:11 AM

I'll look into the valley pan grommet. that is the one I need.

As received. Ewwww

Installed in car..hooray. The main objective of this project was to return the car to the road after a 23 yr hiatus due to internal engine problems. the remainder of the car will be attended to at a later date.

Man, that looks a helluva lot better! Isn't is awesome taking something old and cruddy and making it new again? Anyway, regarding the SD valley pan plug, it is available only from Ames. About $40 if I remember right. And not a bad reproduction if I must say. ;)

Brewster 12-12-2008 10:38 AM

Yes, and the plug was in place before painting if you want to replicate the original look??
