Selling my 1970's survivor hippie van, V8, automatic, PS, some rust, solid frame rails and good floors ran last year, may still run, but really don't know. Clear title $1,500.

awesomeness

I love it! Not in the market for one though, GLWS. I had one just like it but it was a work van. We used it to cart band equipment around. Had a 6 banger with a 3 on the tree. Dont see many hippie vans around anymore. My brothers were in the van conversion business while they were still on HS.

The hippie vans I remember were VW. But, I assume they used whatever van they could buy cheap.

I had only 1 ride in one. Some college neighbors had one. One night they invited me to go with 'em up to a camping site close to a creek, about 30 minutes North. So, I grabbed a few brews & piled in with 'em. Don't remember how many of us there were. But it was packed.

I didn't really fit in with that crowd, since I was a redneck country bumpkin. They were the "Heyyyy Man", "Cooool Man", "Grooovy", "Peace Bother", "dope smokin" crowd.

The Hippie movement was takin place right along side the Musclecar scene. I was obviously into the latter.

I'm having a tough time finding a real hippie / buyer, may have to go Colorado? Instead of selling ice cream, this would make a great mobile "weed" truck out there!

TAKerry 10-22-2018 10:38 AM

I think those kind of vehicles are popular in SoCal.

400 4spd. 10-22-2018 11:07 AM

They are gaining popularity. Should sell pretty easily I would expect.
I had a 73 Club Chateau for sale a few months ago and a guy from Palm Springs called me about it. Said he would have it picked up and transported back. Sounded like a scam or lots of a hassle on my part, so instead I sold it to a guy who drove up from Miami and got it. It didn't run and was really a parts van.

Lugnut, let me know if you want the guy's contact info. He doesn't mind driving. When he left here he hit Ohio, then Canada.

lugnutx2 10-22-2018 11:20 AM

Sounds good, send me the contact info. Thanks!

Agree - Awesomeness.....
You do not see these. I too gotta believe they are gaining in popularity.
Did you do the work inside? Are those some kind of cross cutouts in, like, driftwood?
We need more pictures!

They're gaining steam again, I've been contacted by a couple of vanners who gave me the dates of scheduled van outings, they think I should keep it, but am planning a move down South, so it has to go. I've done none of the work on the van, took it in on trade 10 years ago, I've never even driven it, except to pull it in and out of the garage. Here's a few more pictures, the green van is my wife's.

Sean's been MIA since his El Chapo "mishap"

TAKerry 10-23-2018 06:06 PM

Love the green one!

At a show, Miss B is like a people magnet! The brown van "Shorty" is a great platform to start with, I have it advertised on CL, can't believe I still have it.

I had a '71 that was pretty much the same van. I drove it for quite a while back in the late '80s...Strictly configured for work.. It had a big six and a heavy duty rear axle...8 lug if I recall.. Dana? Had a big hub in the middle with more bolts.
It was a gas hog but I could load it front to back with roofing shingles and it pulled as if it were empty. Real short gears, like I was driving around in 'low'. Never had a problem with it. One of the few Fords I've owned in my life.

It would make a great tow vehicle. ;)

I've got good and bad memories of an early 70s Econoline van.

One of my buddies had one around the time we got out of high school. The interior was pretty well gutted except for shag carpet on the floor. A bunch of us would get together and go to concerts or to clubs in Charlotte. Since it only had front seats, we would bring lawn chairs to sit in the cargo bay. Seat belts? Naw, who needs those.

We were coming back from Charlotte one weekend and a guy pulled across Independence Blvd (a four lane road) right in front of us. The van barely caught his rear quarter, but it was enough to cause my friendto lose control and we barrel rolled down the highway. There were four or five of us in the back, so we got pretty beat up but we all survived. It really taught me the value of seat belts.

I'm embarrassed to say it, but another friend had a Pinto Cruising wagon (with the small round window in the back). Gas was expensive back then, Pintos and Vegas were a lot more common than what you would think.

I remember when my local FORD dealer had a dark blue pinto cruising wagon on the showroom floor,I thought it was kinda neat at the time. Almost bought one that was on CL a few years ago, I still think they're kinda neat.

My brother had a 79 Pinto cruising wagon. Black, red interior, V6/4 speed. That car was a blast!

I'd do some trading on an excellent running 400 455 pontiac engine, No 557 castings. Price drop to $1300. Where are the hippies when you need them?

Firedup6975 11-10-2018 10:01 AM

The Hippies are long gone. It’s the dawning of the Millennials, and they only like Subaru’s, Honda’s, and Toyota’s lol.

Did you ever see the Firebird wagon that was out?

Not all gone yet, I see the hippies at the nursing home on a regular basis.
