Already booked a room!!
|
Yeah, I think I will make this one this year. It will probably be tight though, I still have a bunch of stuff to do yet....
. |
Booked our room for this today. First time I am going up there in a long time. We are staying at a water resort for my kids and then going to Dollywood on Sunday.
|
Anyone know what the total registered cars are for these shows?
. |
I don’t know but that’s a good question. As far as registered cars go I watch my classic car weekly and I am surprised that I have never seen this shoe or run in the sun in Myrtle beach featured. The Run in the Sun is huge
|
I found the info, for 2017, there were 242 registered cars.
As for coverage, it's a matter of who sponsors the show covering. If it's sponsored by one of the big 3, you will see it on shows like that. It's a money thing. . |
I have never been to this show before but I just booked my room for Friday and Saturday. I am hoping there will be some 64s there that I can get some ideas from. Is this a decent size show or is it just average? How is the swap meet?
|
If everything goes to plan I will bring a 64 GTO

I haven’t been for ten years but the swap was very small back then. Hopefully it is better now and maybe someone who’s been lately will chime in.
|
I'll be there with my 74 Formula 455...Arriving on Thursday. Hoping to find some info from locals on my car's twin sister, (My signature photo) last seen in Knoxville, TN in Summer of 1976. How cool would it be for that car to have survived and some local Pontiac enthusiast show up with it at the show?
BJ |
Looking forward to this show. Bringing the whole family but only my wife and I will actually be enjoying the cars. My sister is gonna babysit my girls at the water park hotel we booked. Would love to see a 64 Tempest but not holding my breath. The only Tempest I have ever seen in all my years of car shows was a ratty teal regular Tempest convertible.
|
Their FB page said yesterday that they already had over 185 cars pre registered! When I attended a couple of years ago the swap meet was very small because there was not enough space. I understand the show is moving next year to a bigger space.
If you are not staying at the host hotel I hope you are staying close enough to walk. There will be practically no spectator parking available. Another good reason to move. The show is down in a hole with some grassy spaces beside the river. Unless you are lucky enough to get there early enough to get one of those spaces, you're car will be on asphalt and there is no air circulating. Usually hot and humid, but anywhere in the south is the same this time of the year. It is a great show for a good cause and keeps growing. I see it really blooming when it moves next year. |
Jerry,
I'm going to trailer my car up and plan to get there Thursday mid-day. I'm staying at the host hotel. I'm told that there is trailer parking directly across the street in the big grass field. If I get there by mid-day on Thursday do you think I'll be early enough to get a trailer parking spot and a decent spot for the Firebird? BJ |

Not staying at the host hotel but I really can’t see the parking situation being worse than Myrtle beach. Where is the hotel in relation to the strip? Always park at a business and walk
|
I just looked at a map from our hotel to the host hotel on google earth and it’s about an 8 dollar uber ride so I guess that’s what we will do. You’ll pay that much to park somewhere I’m sure
|
Getting close hope the rain doesn’t mess it up
|
Weather isn’t looking great.... anyone changing plans?
|
Wow, lousy forecast! 90% chance of rain on Thursday and Friday, 60% on Saturday and 40% on Sunday. My car still has the original weather stripping and the trunk and driver side window both leak pretty bad, so I will not be parking it out in the rain for two days. So, unfortunately, I am going to cancel and hope for better weather next year. I was really looking forward to this trip, but the hotel has a 72-hour cancellation policy and I need to cancel today or pay a one-night penalty.
See you next year hopefully! BJ |

I know, Scott. I was looking forward to seeing you as well. We are going to keep tabs on the forecast and if it looks doable, we’ll see if we can get a last minute room somewhere.. If several folks cancel, there may be a change of getting a last minute room. We also have an event in Nashville this weekend, and may just go do that if the weather is better to the west.
|
Hope you can make it, but I understand not wanting to get it wet inside for sure.

My room is already paid for and non refundable so looks like I’m going. I have been watching the weather everyday for the last week and it’s gone back and forth to just cloudy to rain. I guess I will chance it. The forecast here has been thunderstorms everyday for two weeks. Although we have had a good bit of rain we have also had some blazing hot clear days while they were telling us that it was just gonna thunderstorms nonstop. I have yet to hear thunder or see lightning
|
I just cancelled my room at Music Road Hotel if anyone needs one.
|
We canceled tonight also. I really hate to miss it this year.
|
Just got done fitting the pontoons to the GTO! I’ll be there.
Anyone know if the creek has made it up to the lower parking lot? I have been getting flood warning notices on my phone today for Pigeon Forge. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Funny, I can't remember many shows over 1 day that I've ever attended that it didn't rain at least some part of the event.
|
Planning on attending the show. Probably been four years since my last visit.

MCACN in Chicago last November was rainy, but it is indoors. I’ve been watching the radar for Pigeon Forge, sure hope they stay dry and have a good show! BJ |
It has rained a few times but mostly dry. It's been a good show so far. Today is supposed to be really nice weather.
|
About to head out

So far the weathers been beautiful today but hot. My wife’s pick of the show was a 61 Ventura
|
Does anyone know who’s unrestored 64 that was that had the perfect wood wheel in it? The car looked like a survivor but the wheel looked like it was brand new. I love that wheel and would go nuts to have one

Yep that’s Lee’s. It’s a documented dealer installed 421 car.
|
I'm disappointed I missed it this year, was really hoping to be there.
Would enjoy seeing more pics... . |
I didn't take a single picture this year. The threat of bad weather kept a few cars away but not many, still had around 230-240 I heard.

We made it to the show early Saturday. We left before the rain hit. Had a chance to talk to Arnie and John Holmes. Here are a few photos.
