I believe these models live in the shadows of 70-73 and 77-78 Trans Am's. 1974 is my personal favorite year. I looked forever for a decent project until after 10 months the owner of this one finally decided to let me try to save it. It sat in this state for a number of years here in central Georgia under a tarp, which explains the mold. After inspecting the cars I found this body in unbelievable condition. Perfect floor pans and trunk, only rust was outer rust on lower rear quarters. The car is a 74 455 Cameo white car with deluxe blue interior. The car is currently undergoing a frame up "restification" and some more pics after I cleaned it up can be seen at:
http://www.geocities.com/auto33/page3.html As far as Critter's car: It is one of my personal fav's too. If you are into 2nd gen birds you need to stop by: http://www.transamcountry.com http://members.transamcountry.com/me.../phpyUPY41.jpg |
My car was more rust than metal when I found it. Had it not been an X code and had the Cordoba top, I wouldn't have done it. Thanks for the props. These cars are overlooked and I'm glad to see more interest in them these days. Of course the only problem with that is that more of us will be fighting over the parts specific to our year model. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

Boy, you sure know how to bring a tear to a mans eye. Not to mention, my daughters when we saw the pics of your car. I hope everyone was ok from that. I had a good friend lose control of his 74 and hit an Oak tree. The Oak tree won the battle. The car was totaled and Mark was ok. When I saw yours it reminded me of that sad day when a 74 saw its last day on the road. Nice 74 you have that made up for the criing i did for your 75. Hey was that a 69 in the backgrown of that pic in the boneyard? Well, heres another pic of my all but forgotten 75. Hope you enjoy it PhatDaddy and PhatDaddy Racing

Phatdaddy,
The T/A was wrecked around 1990. I was on my way to see a friend who lived out in the country in rural NC. It was a two-lane curvy backroad with lots of trees. I came to a straightaway, and was met by a cube van passing another car. My decision was between the ditch or the van, so I chose the ditch. I tried to straddle the ditch, but I let the driver's side wheel get down into the ditch. It hit a culvert and did a spiraling end over end. I was alone and fared pretty well. I had some compression fractures in the vertebrae in my neck, and a bunch of small cuts. The windows shattered and glass got between me and the seat. I had no broken bones. It was a wild ride. I was less than a mile from my friend's house when the accident occurred. My friend was also a Pontiac nut and owned the 69 Firebird. We hauled my T/A to his house with his dad's tractor, rather than letting it get taken to a wrecker service lot. Since I had no collision insurance and the driver of the van never stopped, I never collected any insurance on the car. My friend helped me yank the motor and tranny out of the car. The photos were shot with it just beginning to rain. I salvaged what I could off of the car and sold it by the pound. It was a quick car. It was running a 455 with 96 heads, TH400, and 3.42 gears Mike |

Here's another photo of the T/A.
Take a look at the chunks of rubber taken out of the steering wheel. I had such a tight grip on the wheel, the rubber sheared off. I had my seatbelt fastened. Mike |
http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif Ohhhhh my... that's just makes my skin crawl looking at it. You are soooo very lucky you are here to share those pictures.
Oh and that 74, hmmm seems to look very familiar to me, I wouldn't know why though LOLOLOL That's purrrdy! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif |
I read in one of the Firebird books that the second generation Firebird was designed with the most severe rollover standards in mind. That is why the Firebird roof was double walled. As you can see, it held up extremely well. The rear pillar supported the roof during the rollover.
I came out with no stithes and no broken bones, only a bunch of tiny cuts and some compression fractures in my neck vertebrae. My leg and hip hurt some, but I was later diagnosed with a degenerative hip condition. Overall, I fared very well. Mike |

A picture of our old '74 Formula (BIR, circa '83). Someone else wanted it more than us and took it in Oct. '83. Never recovered by us because of Police copying down a Trans Am VIN letter (V) instead of the Formula VIN letter (U). Could have been seen cruising Central Ave. weekly. Still have plans to buy another one, same colors, 4-speed and rear spoiler. Anyone?
|
Nice cars guys! That gold is sharp.

Whats up with the bias towards '76s?? I thought this was the 74-76 forum? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif

Here's a picture of my latest purchase. 75 Formula 455, 4spd, 3:42 rear, 4 wheel disk brakes, global west suspension, and 17" torque thrusts.
|
a 75 formula 455? thats interesting as Pontiac never made a formula 455 in 1975. a formula 400 or formula 350 yea..but the formula 455's only came in 71-74.
|
nice car pggto and nice wheels http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif
|
briann, Yeah I know they didn't make one in 75. The car was originally a blue 400 4spd car, it has a 74 455 in it.
|
i figured you did know that, but ive been in some pretty good arguments in the past with people that said they did.
nice car btw. |

Here's my 75... but I changed the front to a 74. I don't really care for the turn signals in the grille.

Form 74, Is that the same car featured in HPP's current issue?
|
Greg, most current issue I have is July 05, all I see an article about a SD455 motor, is their a newer issue out and I haven't received it yet. This guy is from Wisconsion.

Form 74,
I don't subscribe so I was flipping through an issue on the newsstand and didn't notice the date. On the cover is a black T/A and something about it being a $125,000 car or some such thing as that. Actually, I thought that that car was on an older cover but I just saw this one on the stand 2 days ago. I'm fairly certain that the car you've posted the picture of is the same car featured in that issue. How many yellow '74 SD Formulas can there be in that condition right now? |
