Thanks to a PY member I was able to locate this 67' GP Barn find
71,000 mile survivor and been in storage over 20 years Being from a Pontiac family I haven't touched one of these cars in 44 years as my parents had a convert So besides the color it brought back some memories! I'm bringing this lady home tomorrow and cleaning it up and see if I can get it running. |
What a ripper mate,
Keen to follow you getting her on the road again Love them full size cars John L. Sent from my SM-T585 using Tapatalk |
Thanks John!
Your ride looks killer! I have some shinny Torque thrust 17's wheels to put on it to gain inspiration as soon as I get it off trailer. |
please get rid of the stupid looking decal on the air cleaner. other than that it will make a nice ride.
|
Very nice car! Looks like it wouldn't take too much to get it roadworthy again!

Someone may have reconditioned the aircleaner |
How did you find that??
Agree on the decal. It is basically a Buick decal made into a Pontiac decal. Pontiac only used a decal on a 455 HO. |
Yes, you must remove the AC sticker. Pontiacs will not run if the sticker is not removed!

He drives this Cream puff! And yes I know about the Buick thing as I did a 2-jet to Modified 75' custom Qjet upgrade and a alum intake from TA Performance for Buick 350's Also a few other Buick trinkets to yet another cream puff. A one family 69' Buick Skylark Custom convert Yes I added the Buick stickers to a Factory GS aircleaner and added the same to valve covers after this pic. |
Found in a NH barn ?

I went into each cylinder and it's looks good inside. I'm going to let some oil soak in there a few days then try to turn it by hand. Car has a complete new factory style bent Stainless steel line brake system. The system is dry as they were put in place and never got to the fluid step. Factory AFB Carb is a mess so off it comes for a rebuild and dist is moving freely and has new points. I'm pretty certain it will run & drive! :beerchug: |
Save those woven hose covers, you might be able to sell them here, in the performance section...:D
Seriously, what a find!!! |
Didn't all GP's come with a Q-Jet set up? Doesn't matter either way. Nice FIND!!!

Must have been 80's-90's Last inspection sticker is NH 1986 |

Intake has correct 67 date code. Put some Mystery oil down in the holes & benched the carb...all shafts were frozen....good old PB Blaster..she is free now. I see last owner may have tried to paint motor...I'm thinking wrong color...should be my favorite Pontiac Metallic blue. |
Cool car. AFBs on 400s in B bodies in 1967 anyway.
|
Yes, This car came with Carter AFB 4413S
Intake is set up only for this carb...I'll post pic later |

Is the interior a gold color? It looked decent with the rally 2's on it w/ trim rings, jet my opinion... Luckily we have someone here with Carter parts, Jon Hardgrove! |
Only GTO 400s and HO motors across the line got quadrajets in 1967. AFB carbs for everything else.
The poor “engineering” is disappointing but not surprising as unmolested cars are scarce after 50 years. I’m confident you’ll figure it out though ;-) |
Using the AFBs on the full size 67s with 400s was probably a smart move. As I recall, weren't there some problems with the Qjets when they were first introduced...in 1967? I carpooled with a guy for years that had a 67 Cat convert w the 400 4 barrel setup. It was no muscle car, but it would move damn good. It had the factory AFB setup rated at 325HP if memory serves me correctly. His next door neighbor convinced him to try some huge holley carb on it instead of the AFB. That didn't last long. Car ran completely like SH**t with that setup.
|
The real Carter AFB's are fine not the later E-clone that gave it a bad name.
I build AFB's along with every other brand for people and the AFB's are quite simple...easy !. :D Looks like I have another test mule to wideband on & tune carbs on. So now my brother claims that our parents 67' GP vert went better than his 70' GTO....and this is back in the day when these cars were new. All I know is the 670 head is closed chamber and you may gain a few cc's over the 12's or 13's in the 70' Goat...he made no mention of his 65' GTO... I did read an article somewhere the qjet in 67' made more power but was down 10 ft lbs in tq. |
I don't ever remember anyone complaining about the real AFBs....just the E clones. What's your source for the supposed AFB problems? Wonder how many of the Carter AFBs were made in total? 500+ variations over at least a timeframe from 1958 - 1966. Had to be in the millions I would think
|
Which heads? 143? 092? or 670?
|
This car has 670's
I tried to turn it over by hand but it is stuck. I'll keep at it with oil but I may have to pop it out of the car. |
There's been many cures for stuck engines here.
I have used automatic trans fluid with great success. , I use a transmission funnel in spark plug hole and fill each cylinder until it runs out...yes a little messy... |
50/50 mix of acetone and trans fluid works great, don't get it on paint.
|
Thanks for the suggestions guy's I will take your advice and move onto the more aggressive steps.
Looking inside with a black & white camera it did not appear bad at all and I figured it would turn even without oil. I poured in Mystery oil thinking a little lube is better than dry. I'm going to the 50/50 mix |
I have heard great things about the 50/50 mix. I just used ATF because I always had plenty of it.
That carport was VERY moist. I think that you will get it working. Oil it up and walk away for a few weeks. |
I will Steve,
Next taking camera inside gas tank to see what's in there. |
I just saw my car in the movie Knight & day with Tom cruise...lol
|
Mine was in the movie too. It was in the bay of the shop and it looked the rear 1/4 was down to bare metal. You saw it for about 8 seconds.
|
So that was a real shop?
She walks in and the guy says he's got a GP on lift when I look it is 4-door and looks to be about a 70' Catalina |
There was a 70 Bonneville sitting on the lift with no nose on it, My GP was in the last bay.
Those set design people are amazing. They took and old DPW garage and made it look like a shop that had been there for 20 years. It may as well been a real shop! |
|
Thanks Jeff,
You into Sprint 6? I tuned one years ago and loved it! It had all the goodies..Qjet, Long brach style mans...67' firebird stick 3 speed....pulled the weight no prob! Pic tenth row down , 2nd one in, 70 Bonnie... it has the nose on it as my dad a Catalina wagon same nose. |

The car scout was interested in using my 65 Bonneville convertible but the director didn't like yellow. When the scout told me about one of the movie scenarios, I explained to him that what they were going to do was incorrect and it turns out that they took my advice...but i don't even remember what the advice was! The 1970 Bonneville was supplied by my friend's salvage yard. |
Steve,
That is from the 1966 DELUXE Dealer Brochure. The Lemans and the GTO both are depicted with 8-Lugs GM was really hoping to get the 8-Lugs onto the A-Body platform but it was just to costly and as we all know never came to be. |

It's the GTO. Wide Open World of Youth 1966.
Sorry for derailing this topic. |
I would have bet that it was a Lemans
|
Update:
Added 50/50 mix to cylinders and going to try to make it move over the weekend. |
Awesome!

I need a steering wheel
the plastic is cracked and 1/3 has fallen off exposing the chrome steel ring that makes up the wheel. I found a tilt column in the trunk but not changing at this point. I also found one of it's fender skirts If motor proves to be too stuck I'll pull it out for the winter, break it down and give it what it needs. I want to drive it daily next spring. |
I have the wipers and I should have a skirt.
|
I found a few sheet metal pieces locally.
I take it the Bonnie & Catalina shared sheetmetal? |
