Who makes 3 in exhaust that i can use a offset/center muffler
 

I wonder why is it that Pypes systems only offer a offset/offset mufflers on thier systems? I called them and asked them of they offer something different and couldn't a answer. I used their system on my T-37 and i hated the sound from the race pros, too me it sounded like muffled glass pack. I would rather use a center/center muffler, too me, their are already enough bends in the exhaust. I have a set of Hooker aero chambers and i love the way they sound. This is the same engine is different cars.

I would think most muffler suppliers and manufacturers have catalogs that would be of help. They typically show length, width, shape, and inlet/outlet placements.

I suspect the Pypes muffler is simply matched to fit the car application as factory and makes it easier with a known muffler that works with whatever exhaust system that is chosen.

on a straight through muffler like a race pro or dynomax ultra flo there are no bends internally, its just a straight perforated pipe thats cut at an angel at the ends. the sound wont change much if at all on a center/center vs offset/offset or offset/center muffler, its the design of the muffler that will change the sound. just buy the style/brand you like that fits the rest of the system to change the sound.

A lot of people think of muffler flow as a straight line or stream. It's not. The modern chambered mufflers uses a plenum at either end and relies on the pressures of the exhaust pulses to flow and scavenge while the baffles generate sound cancelling waves back towards the incoming sound waves.

The location of the outlet relative to the inlet is a matter of the best position for the pipes for ground clearance and clearance to shocks and rear axle. in most cases, the maker locates the pipes where the OEM hanger mounts are. On an A Body, that is usually offset inlet and center outlet.

Actually, the muffler configuration on the factory A-bodies I've dealt with have always been offset/offset. That keeps the head pipes closer to the center of the car so they can somewhat tuck up into the trans tunnel for clearance, and it keeps the tailpipes moved to the outside so they clear the upper control arms.

Any time I've tried installing an offset/center muffler configuration I've had to rebend the headpipes to tilt the mufflers to the outside of the car, so the tailpipes would clear the upper control arms. A factory style hanger will also want to have the muffler over in this position.

This is likely why almost all of your exhaust kits are designed like OEM with an offset/offset muffler in mind.

Like 78W72 mentioned, the good flowing mufflers on the market don't have bends inside, they are a straight through design. If you use a chamber style muffler like the Hooker, it doesn't really matter if you use a center/center configuration, with the sound chambers inside the air flow is going all over the place anyway. Give's them a unique sound but they generally restrict a bit compared to the straight through design like Dynomax, Pypes, etc...

I agree I don't like the sound of the Pypes race pro's. I've switched a couple over to the street Pro's and was much happier with it. But my go to muffler of choice are the Dynomax Ultraflows.

I had to add a 1-2" section on my Torque Tech pipes at the top to use a offset/center muffler on my 78 TA as they were set up for offset offset but that would have hit the electic fuel pump I had mounted using offset/centers.
