I have a '71 T/A auto all original except for the carb. I would like to find out if it was a carb mounted switch that operated the shaker selenoid and if these cars came with a idle selenoid. Also, how many and where are the ground straps located?

The 1971 TA used a plunger type of switch mounted on the idle solenoid bracket that was compressed when the throttle was near wide open. This same system was used from 1970 to '72 according to the manuals. But, the 1972 four speed TA I owned used the switch mounted above the accelerator pedal.

As for ground straps, the manual shows a metal strap on the right front carb bolt that rubs against the scoop base. There is also a copper flexible strap from the back of the scoop that runs to the firewall.

Chiefpontiac, should the car have an idle solenoid? I know the 4sp cars did but do the automatics?
