Metal or plastic knob on ‘68 cigarette lighter?

Did the ‘68 gto factory cigarette lighter have a metal knob (like my ‘66) or a plastic knob (like the new aftermarket ones)?
I bought a used lighter from eBay that said it was “original”, and it has a plastic knob. I’m thinking it’s a used aftermarket lighter, but maybe gm switched from metal to plastic between’66 and ‘68. They look the same, but the metal one is much heavier
If anyone can verify what an authentic gm lighter knob was made of in ‘68 I’d appreciate it

68 lighters use the plastic knob..like the radio
Headlight and wiper switch knobs in 68
Kick panel knob also

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that the radio knobs on my ‘68 were plastic, but a lot of things on my car have been replaced with aftermarket parts by a previous owner, so that wasn’t definitive.
Is there any sure way to tell an original gm cigarette Lighter from an afterlife one? GM part number somewhere on it?

from the 68's I have worked on
seems there is
2 different lighters in 68
casco and rochester

they do not interchange parts wise.. one element doesnt fit in the other

rochester is a solid stationary element ... casco has a sliding collar if i remember correctly

even the ring that holds them in the dash seems to be different also

no part number that i have seen,,,

also the casco knob scews on the element where rochester is made on

just my observations

The aluminum bezels show up on ebay from time to time. There are two different part numbers for '68 A and B bodies. I have both and can't see any difference in the two.

Metal or plastic knob on ‘68 cigarette lighter?

That’s a great question. Mine is definitely metal. I looked closely with an eye piece and it has dings in it, no chips or cracks. I’d expect cracks if it were plastic but mine has dings and dents.

I should have an extra complete nice spare
I will look tomorrow
Whole assembly
Can’t guarantee 68 lighter works in housing you have
They made Rochester and casco and I think a 3rd
None interchange
Diff diameter diff depth sliding collar
Stationary collar

We’re the different lighters time based on when car was built, or they just had 3 types through the entire year?

Pontiac sourced from two different vendors for the lighter over several years. The Ames catalog has a good description of how to tell the difference.
