'74 SD Trans Am body

I was approached today and asked if I had an interest in a '74 SD TA. No motor, trans, interior is very rough and the body...…...well, it has some major rust issues. It's been in his yard for approx. 30 years. What would something like this be worth? I'll be honest, it's not something I have an interest in but I told the guy I would get a rough idea of maybe what it's worth.

Without the original drivetrain I wouldn't think its worth much more than any other 74 trans am, or for that matter any rusty trans am body. 74 SD's are getting pretty good money, but that's for cars this one will never be. Would really need to see how rusty it really is, but if its the typical partial floor, and a patch or two I personally wouldn't spend more than about 3k for it, and that is only because it is a SD.

And VIN to see if it's in the Registry?

Definitely need pics.

I can post pictures and VIN next week I believe. The car is covered in crap and behind a few other cars as well.

How many SD's are now in the registry?

173 SD's in 1973
373 SD's in 1974

There are quite a few blocks that have gotten separated from the original bodies. I have two that I've owned for 25 - 30 years. One of my blocks belongs to a car listed in the registry, but I haven't been able to get any details on it.

That would be great if the original motor could be found. I know my neighbor has a super duty block in his garage as well. What would the value of a block be? He died a few years ago and I know his wife will get rid of stuff at some point. He had tons of motor parts.

Interesting.

A friend of mine owned a '74 SD that was only a rough body as well. He sold it a while back, but not 30 years ago. He has been trying to locate where it is now.

Any update on this Wick?

Wick 07-10-2019 11:24 AM

Talked to the guy last week with no progress. He has so much junk piled on top but he did open the trunk for some reason. I'm working on the guy.

I have 2 SDs without their original engines, one VIN# 162786 and the second VIN # 160883, do you have the original block for either of them? thanks Mark

My friend sold his factory (ZJ) four speed 73 SD to Dave Hall in Nebraska, original drivetrain car. Not sure if that one is in the registry. Dave owns "Restore a Muscle Car", the car needed to be restored. Car was factory white w/ blue hood decal.

It's worth the same as any other rusty 74 with non-original drivetrain. The history is simply only interesting by now.

Interesting this thread was bumped as I saw the car again yesterday. Still sitting in the same spot rotting away unfortunately. Still working on the guy to get it out of the weeds and sell while he can.
