1965 Exhaust Manifold Casting Numbers
 

What are the correct exhaust manifold casting numbers (LH & RH) for a 65 GTO? Thanks! Bill

The reason I am asking the question is that I noticed that the Wallace Racing website listed the casting numbers as follows:

65 GTO (LH): 9779032; (RH): 9779033
’66 – ’68 GTO (LH): 9779032; (RH): 9779328

Is 9779033 the correct number or is it 9779328?

If I follow the thread...It leads me to believe that one of the numbers listed on the Wallace Racing website is incorrect and the correct casting numbers for the 1965 exhaust manifolds are actually 9779032 and 9779328. Is that correct?

The 9779328 is correct for the RH side manifold.

I probably missed typed that other number (brain farted), why I didn't correct it back then on the other post linked?

John, I took a quick look at your list.

As you know, my main interest is '64.

As I mentioned in that old post, the '65 manifold p/ns quickly superseded the factory original '64 exhaust manifolds in the MPC for Service Replacement. But the '65 manifolds were not OE for '64.

The OE log manifolds for '64 were:

RH 9773442, this manifold used for the '64 V8 A body and the big Pontiac and included a Heat Riser Valve. Not sure what the p/n was for the assembly which included the HRV and the manifold casting itself but the 9773442 is cast on the manifold. This RH manifold was only used in '64.

LH 545467, this manifold used for the V8 A body in '63 and '64. It has a rear outlet.

For the ''63/'64 big Pontiac, the LH manifold required a center outlet and was p/n 545470.

You list the 9779328 for various '63 & '64 applications. This RH manifold was first used for the '65 Model Year so is not the correct OE manifold for any application prior to '65. It is a correct Service Replacement for the prior years but would not have been factory installed.

As Chris showed, 545467 is the RH, serviced as an assembly with the HRV. It was the log manifold for the big Pontiac and A body in '64. I think it was also used for both in '63 but you should recheck to be sure.

I think I got the big Pontiac LH casting p/n 545470 correct but you should recheck that one also.

It was the '64 LH 9773442 that was unique to the '64 A body.

My only excuse is that I am working without a net these days. Since a recent move, all of my reference material is in storage.

I should have gone out to my car and confirmed the p/ns that way. I got lazy and relied on my memory.

Just curious…Has anyone purchased a set of repro ’65 exhaust manifolds and how close are they to the originals? Looking at the photos, they look almost identical and would be almost impossible to tell the difference.

Has anyone purchased repro manifolds since this post?

Surely someone has purchased a set of the 65 exhaust manifolds since the original question was asked in April 2019 and would be able to give their opinion about the fit and how close it looks to an original. I need a set, but most of the ones I look at are pitted and/or the casting number is not pronounced.
