1972 Formula 455 HO
 

Happy New Year! When I was a kid, my older brother owned a 1972 455 HO Formula. I recently ran across the dealer invoice for this car (see attachment). If somebody still has the car, enjoy the additional documentation! If anybody knows of its whereabouts I would appreciate hearing about it. It was in the south suburbs of Chicago when my brother owned it in the mid 1970s. He had a 1972 T/A at the same time and the Formula was his "work car".

Pewter Silver the exterior color?
I thought the Revere Silver was for 72.
(I had a Revere Silver Formula, nice color)

I don’t have a picture of the Formula. I don’t know about the color, I actually remember it being white, but I was about ten at the time. Waiting to hear from my brother about it. I do have a picture of the Trans Am. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e95d6a3180.jpg

Looks like Revere Silver and Silver Pewter might have just been different GM division names for the same paint code in 1972.

I just thought a Pontiac invoice showing a Chevy color name was strange.
Maybe the original owner wanted 'Pewter Silver' so they just put that on there to appease him?

Looked at invoice twice then and looked today and it did have the rear spoiler.

Nicely optioned car - I bet it was stunning. Does anyone know what the front bumper panel was at N/C? Was this a reference to the poly valance?

That's what I was thinking.
It would have been color impregnated, so it would have been silver color.
(different #'s for each color?)

The TA was definitely a '72. Maybe someone changed the valance already at that point. It definitely had at least a little paint work done because the fender extractors were painted blue. Somewhere I have the VIN for that car too. I looked it up once and found that it was still registered in Illinois or Indiana, I forget which. My searches for the Formula came up empty.

That 72 TA is sitting very nice, and way cool car! Having a matching daily driver Formula screams more cool! Thinking pewter could be interior color on 72 Formula? But, does say black vinyl trim...

This is just a guess, but I think it might be the plastic filler panel that went between the core support and the front bumper to deflect air through the radiator (on a/c cars?). I think we've discussed this before, but I could not find the thread. The picture below shows the panel on my old 70 trans am.

Finally spoke to my brother about the Formula. When he owned it (1975-'76) it was painted "pearl white". It was a repaint, he didn't know what the original color was, but was probably silver as shown on the invoice. I remember this car having visible rust around the rear wheels, which amazes me looking back as it was only a few years old at the time. Chicago winters were hard on cars. Surprising that there are as many left as there are. Yes Mike, the fender scoops on the TA were Lucerne Blue. I always liked the look too.

Was the 72 T/A a 4 speed car? Any idea on the approximate mileage when it was sold? I MAY know where this car is today.

No idea of mileage, but this was in 1976 so I’d be surprised if it was over 50k. Automatic car.

Not to change the subject, but I also owned a ‘72 that was a 4 speed car. It had an interesting history. When I bought it in 1984, it had an Olds 350 diesel block with gas heads and port fuel injection from a ‘79 Cadillac. It had a Turbo 400 with a switch pitch torque converter and a full floating rear end from an F350. It was quite the Frankenstein car. I found a ‘71 455 HO block out of a Trans Am, some ‘72 heads and intake and a Muncie 4 speed and 10 bolt posi and put it back as close as I could to stock on my budget (I was in my early 20s at the time). The story I got was that the original owner lost the car in a divorce, then the wife traded the drivetrain to someone for a brand new drivetrain out of a late 70s Firebird with an automatic because she couldn’t drive a stick. The original parts were removed but the new parts were never installed. The guy I bought the car from bought it in this condition and built it with the aforementioned parts.
I ended up selling it to a friend who tore it all apart and it’s been sitting on a rotisserie for years. If anyone has a ‘72 manual trans block and wants to trade for a ‘71 he might be interested. ;)

Thanks for the response. Cool stuff for sure. It is not the same car as the white/white 72 that I know about is a manual trans car.
