And yet the 55 gallon drum liner full of Beanie Babies I bought for my daughters is worth about the value of the drum liner. You have to know what to collect. Kind of like my priceless Yugo collection.

My son collected and traded them back then. Had all the most disired ones.
Gave them to his nephew when got older. They ended up in trash few years later.
We sold all my daughters Bennie Babies in a yard sale. They paid for an all expence day trip to Brookfield zoo.

Its funny, Ive never seen anyone actually play that Pokemon card game. I think that will hurt them long term.

I have friends that play Magic the Gathering. The early cards in that are worth a ton too, but that game actually gets played. No different then the argument for our own hobby. Get new people interested in it and it continues on.

I dont own a deck so Ive only ever played with friends a few times, but its funny how much it parallels racing lol. Cards get determined to be too much of an advantage so they get regulated out of tournament play with rule changes.

GTO's ended up in junkyards too. :D

My son was crazy about these cards about 6-7 years ago...was given a box of cards when he was 10, and for the next 2 years, he traded and bought and sold his way up to cards that were valued in the thousands...I thought the whole thing was insane, but I let it go because he wasn't really spending any money...But then he asked me for $5k to buy one card...after I said absolutely not about that one, and a few others he pestered me about, his interest faded. It's funny, about a month ago he mentioned that the 5k card he wanted to buy is now valued at 300k...he teases me about that non-stop.

No doubt they have value, but how many of them are actually worth BIG money. Its kinda like the record album thats worth a million bucks. Problem is they only made like 2 copies, so the chance of finding one in your box of vinyl is highly unlikely! I have 2 brothers within about 6 yrs of age. The three of us would get a new hot wheel every couple of weeks growing up. I ended up with the pile of them. I had at least one of every one made, starting with the original production ones from the 60's. I literally had boxes full of them. Pop had someone clean out the basement when all the kids were gone, hot wheels went away :(

Dad was a kid in the late 30's early 40's. His thing was comic books. He had every superman from the beginning as well as piles of all the others. Said when he left for the Marines my grandmother threw them all away!

I told my son about this and he pulled out his album of Pokeman cards. All in sleeves, he must have a hundred or so. Retirement right around the corner:D

My kids played with Pokemon cards when they first came out. My wife works for a local college that has a lot of japanese students. She would get cards from them, so we also have a bunch that are japanese.

I can attest to that. That's what happened to my first 66 GTO in 1971....... scrap.

I remember listening to guys in late 80's/early 90's talk about putting Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig cards in the spokes of their bicycle wheels as kids in the 60's. Ya never know.

I was never into collecting cards of any kind but in the late 80's, a buddy was dumping his huge collection of baseball cards out of boredom and gave them to me for free. I still have it all but know nothing about them. I bet 95% of it is worth nothing.

A friend of mines older brother bought secondhand the first issue of Playboy years back. I think it was the first but it had Marilyn Munroe in it. Which we then 13-14 year old boys were goggled eyed at.

My mates mum found us one day with our eyes popping out. She was a Christian sort of woman and she tore it out of our hands and burnt it. What's it worth today????

Right around a thousand dollars.

I have that issue along with just about every issue from the 1950s.

Since neither of those guys played past the 30’s, their cards printed in the ‘60’s wouldn’t be worth squat anyway.

As for your collection- go through it and pull out any names that you recognize.

A card from the ‘50s of a player nobody has heard of isn’t worth much. If it’s Mickey Mantle or Hank Aaron, on the other hand....

I still have all my “A and B” level cards. My A+s - including a Mickey Mantle and a Hank Aaron that he autographed for me - were safely locked in my desk drawer: a desk my mom had thrown away after I moved out.

Don’t expect to buy a vacation house with the proceeds, but there could be a couple thousand bucks there.

Just got done looking at 20 most collectable Hot Wheels.
Now I'm really sick to my stomach.
Had some of them, but not same colors or features.

Remember having to tape back side of the lids cause they event broke.
Gave them to my son when was a young. They ended up pilled in his toy box.
Sure my wife either yard sale, or tossed them after he moved out.
