1 Owner 40k miles 65 GTO on eBay

Original paint and garage kept pampered.
Link to eBay Auction =

It is definitely a Very Very Nice Car

but ,,,
Has had TriPower upgrade.
Looks like 67 Shifter upgrade too, so possibly a 3 speed Auto conversion.
No mention of original take-offs being in hand.

Rear Defog switch MIA - maybe the option was never installed when the car was built.
But its charged on the window sticker.

No Posi or Power Brakes ordered is a little bit odd when looking at the list of neat things he did order on the car.

The listing makes it sound like it might have a single muffler exhaust system installed.
Don't see any tailpipe(s) though.

I would bet the ol man kept anything he took off , but its likely all been disposed of by now.
It even had chrome splitters at one time.

Cardo 03-18-2020 01:25 PM

Defog switch is there. On the dash on the left side of the steering column for 64-65.

60sstuff 03-18-2020 01:30 PM

Been watching this one.

The defogger is present.
It shows at the rear package tray and the switch is below the wiper switch.

Ashtray has been used, maybe for change as the seller says no evidence of smoking.
The black paint is worn off badly at the bottom edge.

Has an alarm hole in the driver door, plus other various holes throughout for the wiring.
Must be the alarm horn hiding behind the metal shield fastened to RH inner fender.

Looks like the dealer added the outside mirror and undercoat.

No seat belts - credit $11.00

Keith Seymore 03-18-2020 03:14 PM

Rear tail panel and taillight stripped of black paint.

Valve covers are on backwards.

Those are some funky tires.

VIN 237375B118121 = Baltimore built car.

Thanks for the corrections guys.
Couldn't see the package tray , and was looking for the switch to be on the gauge bezel with the others. woops

Noticed a detent switch on pass side of radiator support - must have been a hood alarm trigger switch since you spotted an alarm system.

Hope a PY member gets it.
Really appears to be in super nice condition.

If the daughter were selling it now, I'd say calling it "one owner" is fair.
But seeing as how a flipper has it, isn't "three owner" more accurate?

60sstuff 03-18-2020 11:13 PM

Does anyone have the ability to capture a defined photo of the aluminum “data plate” on this GTO?

I’ve asked the seller a couple of questions including the above, but no response.
Also curious about rust on the trunk floor, still no response.

Chris.

SURPRISE

I bet the old boy got a surprise when he first drove that car with metallics and no power brakes. You have to really stomp on the pedal when the linings and drums are cold. How about not wanting seat belts as well.

Yes, the choice of options is a little odd, but still the car is really neat.

I think it would look better with a Black pinstripe.

Upgraded the wheel disc from Deluxe to Custom.

I talked to the daughter's husband when the car was for sale on CL and did attempt to start the car, without success.

How much was the asking price on CL ?
And how long ago was that ?

The ol man probably has some secret squirrel non-start prevention on the car.

He seemed pretty serious about anti-theft to have even enclosed the siren so it couldn't be disabled quickly.
Bet it purrs like a kitten though

60sstuff 03-19-2020 01:00 PM

James Bond 007 hidden start button.

Could be a secret start switch somewhere.

Or possibly a cam gear, timing chain issue that prevents it from starting?

I’ve never been able to find a reliable GM statement of when they used the nylon coating on the aluminum cam gear teeth.

I’m certain they used this style in 66-67 and beyond.
I’m not sure about 64-65?

Chris

Good eyes and sharp mind on that catch.
Have never been able to keep those terms straight/coordinated about hubcaps.

A guy who kept all his old wax/polish remnants in a box, definitely would have kept the parts he removed or swapped from the car ... somewhere.

Oh BVZ,

That’s a good one!
You may have solved the kill switch location.

BTW, it seems they may have applied the “undercoat” on the inside of the trunk. LOL.

This is a dealer car. Nothing good ever comes out of Jersey.

Wrong again and you would lose any bet on that.

But then, you still believe automatic GTO shifters had white buttons, not chrome.

Baron Von Zeppelin 03-20-2020 05:00 PM

That trunk coating looks fresher than 1965.
Its probably an aerosol product that can at least be removed from exposed visible areas. Painstaking though

The trunk shot and shifter/possible transmission transplant could be a deal breaker to certain buyers at certain price point - if they missed those details beforehand.

Its at a price point where i'd want some trained eyes on it

Nice factory paint on a light shade metallic color is an extreme rarity
