how to remove 68 dash pad
 

The dash pad on my 68 Bonneville is cracked in a few places. I thought I might remove it and attempt to fix it. Saw several posts about dash pad interchange, but noting specific as to how to remove the top dash pad.

Any hints or best practices?

There are 5 or 6 screws under the lip of the pad that get removed first, then there is a push-in post at each end of the pad in the vertical section. There isn't much to get ahold of to pull on, but it is a straight rearward pull. Also, the speaker will be attached to the grille, but the wires are long enough to disconnect from the top side.

many thanks. I "think" the screws along the lip are missing altogether. A little leery of tugging on the thing. will take a hard look at things in the light of day

Take the A pillar moldings off 1st!

thanks for the tips. I got the pad off just fine, and yes removed the A-pillar trim first.

My car is a bit of a heap with plenty of hidden rust and so low-budget is my best friend. Thinking of carefully cutting and grinding away the material sticking up and then using a soft putty version of bondo meant for urethane arch. trim. to smooth things out and then covering the whole works with a sheet of vinyl.

Think it could work?

How bad is it? Sometimes leaving it alone looks better than trying to fix it...
