Missing 63 SD Lemans found

The last of the 6 63 SD Lemans has been found. It is the Superior Pontiac car.Scott at Supercars has it now and will be doing the restoration.Tom

I heard a rumor of that last weekend at Norwalk. Any details of how, where and condition it was found in? Love hearing stories surrounding these long lost cars.

tom s 08-08-2018 06:36 PM

The car was in storage for 20 years.Dont know too much yet.Spent a lot of time with Scott last weekend.I dont know if it has the alu on the car.Tom

It is truly amazing that all these cars are being found, period. So many rare SD cars, 69 Trans AM convertibles, super rare cars from other brands. It's really cool.

tom s 08-08-2018 07:42 PM

Only 3 of the Lemans survived with only one with the SD Powershift transaxle, all 8 of the 69 T/A converts did.Only 1 of the SD wagons survived,it has the Powershift trans axle. Both of the 63 SD Tempests im told survived. Not sure of the 13 63 SD SC cars but quite a few for sure.Royal car,2 M/T cars, the Arni car and I know a couple more for sure.Tom

SD tempest

Scott said the car is pretty rough, but the original engine was with it.

Think the block, did not think the engine. The owner had a guy in AZ already build a engine for it.Still needs a 859 for it.Tom

Back about 30 yrs ago, my now ex brother in law was a GTO freak.
They moved to Texas and he had one of every year GTO made, a few convertibles, and a 66
he bought new in West LaFayette In. All were drivers, some nicer than others, none were
pristine.
I remember he traded out the engine in the 66 for a RA ? engine.
I had no clue what a RA anything was then. He sold everything in the late 80's.
Butt load of high perf parts.
Wonder where they are now . . . .

Girlfriend in HS, her dad owned Wells Pontiac in Richmond In, she always had a new Trans Am, GTO demonstrators, rag tops to
drive. I didn't know what the HO on the hood stood for. She had to ask her dad. I was clueless.
I drove all of them, just knew they were cool cars. 69-70-71

I have a Lucy Blue 1970 TA that was sold new at Wells Pontiac. They apparently sold ALLOT of HP Pontiacs from what I've seen.

Would be interested to hear the story on how this car was found.
Does it still have the powershift transaxle in it? The last missing car would then be the #50 pictured in my profile.

tom s 08-10-2018 09:59 AM

No trans,it was converted at sometime.Has a 9in.History has shown where and when the #50 went, what was done with it IS the real unknown.Tom

Talked to Scott,no front end on the car.He has found a few pc for the car.Tom

I would have liked to have met you at Norwalk. I called you for help about 19 years ago when I first got my car. I was in the pits alongside Arnie Brewer and his Lil’ Warrior.

tom s 08-10-2018 01:43 PM

Crap,I was in the pit side a lot next to the all Pontiac truck. Was at the ice cream shack every day at 11.Doubt I will be there next year, have a fishing trip booked.Maybe year after God willing.Tom

What a great looking machine.
It's really very interesting, to me, to follow you SD knowledgable folks on this and other similar stories.

LOL! We were probably in the ice cream line together at some point. I'll be going there for the rest of my life now that the car is together. See you one of these years.

For those who don't know, it supposedly was quickly bought and hustled off to Mercedes-Benz for "analysis".
Tom- did you see the re-creation of #50 being built that was on display in the midway at Norwalk? Paul Goldsmith is still alive and being consulted for details.

tom s 08-11-2018 12:19 PM

Jack,it was at Norwalk year before last.Tom
