alt warning at stop lights

I have a 2009 G8 GT. It runs and drives fine. Lately, when I sit at a stop light for too long, I get an alternator warning alert on my dash, and a battery icon. The car idles normally, and I see no other issues while this is happening. When I accelerate, the warnings immediately go away. I only see them when I sit for an extended period of time at a light.

I don't see an alternator or battery gauge in my car. I even pushed the buttons on the steering wheel, thinking I might see the voltage, like when it shows mpg and average speed.

Anyways, my first inclination is to think it is either a worn battery, or the alternator. Either of which will probably cost a couple hundred dollars. I have not tested anything with a multi-meter yet. Has anyone had this problem? I wonder if there is a known harness or connector issue with these cars.

Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.

I forgot to update this post. It was the alternator. I changed it myself. Why would engineers design it at the bottom instead of the top? It took some time to get to it.

Sorry I missed your 1st Post, on our G8 the Clutch on the Alternator started acting up a few years ago. On ours it seemed to occur when we let off the gas on the freeway. Changing it cured it.

So you also liked the placement of the Power Steering Hardline over the Alternator?
