seat cleaner???

I have a 65 GTO with original white interior. It is in good shape but seats are yellowing . Any ideas on a good cleaner to bring back original
white color??

I have used lacquer thinner in the past on an original red interior that had turned black. It worked good but in no way brought it back. Highly doubt you will un-yellow white.

You could probably try some Simple Green and a small nylon brush... I'm certain that would help some.

I remember a friend back in high school (mid-‘70s) that had a ‘67 Mustang, the interior was painted white using Mar-Hyde. It looked great and was very durable, he changed the color of the interior from brown to white.

Not sure if you can get it anymore since the company was bought out by 3M but there must be something out there you can use.

Magic Erasers and mild soap and water. Also search using ammonia and water, either way, I’d take them out so you don’t get it on anything else. Always try a place that can’t be seen first to check for color fastness

It’s worth noting that the ‘65s had parchment, not white, which is a bit yellower.

Yes. It has sort of a goldish pearl to it which makes it appear a bit yellow. However, the OP is in the sunny, hot south and is probably dealing with a sun-beat interior. That is what I was dealing with on my '62 GP. The sun doesn't always just dry out vinyl material, it will burn it. This is why the lacquer thinner somewhat worked. It removed much of that burn as well as the decades of day to day dust, dirt and grime ground into the vinyl.

I used Murphy’s oil soap and warm water to good results on my Buick parchment interior. Even brought back some of the pearl effect.

Magic eraser works kind of good, a good marine cleaner, like Spray 9, is much better though. I've used the blue coral foaming upholstery cleaner, with a soft brush, that works great. Once it's dry, use a dry brush to get any bulk off, then wipe with a damp cloth. Screw that stupid brush/cap thing, get a good hog hair brush.

Yes, parchment, pearle, both have a 'gold' tint to it I believe, and that is actually sprayed on after the seat is assembled. It does wear off, and you can wash it off, so would be careful using any strong solvent, because once you remove some of it, it will get splotchy, and you will be working your butt off to get the rest of it to look the same.

The 71 LeMans Sport I have has the mesh inserts, and can be a pain to clean. For me, the Blue Coral works the best, it gets down into the mesh and cleans well. It's safe, too. I use it on door panels and headliner too.
