Original rear seat cover repair

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of a do or die repair I made to my original GTO rear seat cover.

The original cover is in what I'd call 7 point condition as far as color, damage and flexibility. But the anchor wires at the top and bottom had corroded and worn through much of the fabric that attaches them to the vinyl. And on the top side the fabric was tearing away from the vinyl very easily.

I took some lightweight white canvas and made up new anchor wire channel and on the lower edge sewed it to the remaining fabric that was in good shape. On the top I had to completely remove the original fabric and sewed the new channel right to the vinyl as the original piece was.

Turned out pretty nice and will hopefully work fine. Had to give it a shot before I spend $600 on more Legendary stuff.

Used an old 70's era Consew industrial machine, barely up to the task going through a couple of layers of vinyl and canvas.

Good job!
I did the same thing to my rear seat back. I don't have a machine though..did it by hand. I used an old heavy tablecloth.

I would be proud of that!

Yep the canvas I used would be similar to a heavy picnic table cloth. Biggest problem was my sewing table is just the typical industrial machine stand ... that heavy vinyl doesn't "flow" well over the edges of the table ... would have been way easier with like an 8' square table.
Lower repair wanders a bit where it's sewed to the old fabric, but that will be totally hidden from view.
The job actually made me peruse the internet for new industrial walking foot machines ... then I came to my senses and realized this was the probably the heaviest thing I would ever sew :)
