I am considering buying a PowerTrax Performance Locker for the old 10 bolt in my '70 GTO. Looks like a good unit, and will be an easy install, not to mention gets rid of the side and spider gears in the carrier. Anyone here have anything good or bad to say about them?

Tinny, surf over to CP and check the archives. This was discussed in detail there a few months ago. Most people like them, and installation is easy.

we've got some out in the area in pulling trucks and they're pretty tough. the biggest drawback is the ratcheting noise when turning.mike

Thanks for the info gents. They look like good units and I haven't read any negative reviews on them. A little ratcheting noise won't bug me at bit.

Hey Tin! I have installed one in my '66 GTO. I am very happy with my unit. I had thought Bob Dillon installed one is his car??? At any rate, check out
http://members.aol.com/gold66gto/arrowhead/reviews.html I did a review of the installation. There is also a review by a chevy guy on there as well. He was reading the old PY boards and saw one of my posts about the locker there. He has put one in and is quite happy with his as well. If you have any other questions let me know. Again, I am very happy with my locker! Good luck and hope this helps some, Kev ------------------ Kevin Swaney Gold '66 GTO, 389 4 spd with Trips 13.042 @ 106.64 mph [This message has been edited by KEV (edited 06-05-2000).] |
Thanks Kev,
I checked out your review yesterday. Seeing the times your goat runs, it looks like it can take plenty of power. Looks like you are having some traction problems(hehe). With that 106 mph trap speed you could get your goat into the 12's ------------------ "Run wild with an Indian, not with the crowd in a Chevy" Check out my restoration at http://members.aol.com/jetmech15/gto |
Kev, haven't got around to it yet. But I will. I'm still waiting to put in my new carpet "when the weather gets warm." It was 90 today.

Hey Tin! I don't THINK it is a traction problem i think its a driver/driver shifting problem LOL I just can't bring myself to power shift the thing. I shift it hard but apareltly not hard enough. maybe an automatic this year to see what diff that makes......
good luck with the locker! ------------------ Kevin Swaney Gold '66 GTO, 389 4 spd with Trips 13.042 @ 106.64 mph |
