Back in a '67 GTO...

This all began back in March when I first learned of this GTO and I waited over 4 months to finally see it. On July 30th, I was able to see the car and meet the original owner "Rex" in the South Sacramento area where the car had remained since it was purchased new. Rex purchased the car at Lee Pontiac in Davis on Aug 30th of 1967. He had just got out of the service after being drafted two years prior and was looking for a '67 Chevelle or GTO. Being that late in the model year, there weren't many new '67s left, but he did find this particular GTO by making a phone call to the Pontiac dealer in Davis. Rex drove the car sparingly until 1986 when he simply parked it in his garage where it just sat and hadn't seen daylight until recently. The car has 35K original miles with "most" of its original paint (I have since found a few areas where there looks to have been some old paint work done), a beautiful original interior and its matching numbers drive-train. Rex installed the mag wheels, steering wheel and tach shortly after its purchase. The car itself is in great condition overall, but will need lots of work to get it running and back on the road again. I'm looking forward to getting behind the wheel for its first drive in many years!

Mag wheels and 2nd set of tires, original steel wheels/caps (he painted the faces black at some point) and other parts that he found. He's still looking for the original steering wheel and the far right dash pod "dummy" plate.

That is a nice ride!

Nice find! That is a cream puff. I've probably driven by it a million times on my way to Sac.

Grant,

I was hoping you would share this Awesome 67 GTO with everyone.

All muscle car enthusiast need to see a car like this one.

Low mileage, Factory Paint with GTO pinstripes, 4 speed and a complete intact A.I.R. equipped engine of which only 2004 where produced.

I think the Seneca Bronze wheels with redlines on a Signet Gold Car is Bad Ass!

You scored big time getting this car from the Original owner and right in your backyard.

Congratulations, Chris.

PS, The little extra pinstripes on the headlight bezel is cool factory stuff!

WOW... you scored on that one. Love the TTs and redlines on it.

Looks pretty good, bet you are happy!

One question, if that trunk weatherstrip is original, where is the joint, on the left side?

Yes, the weatherstrip looks to be the original one. The joint on this one is to the right side of the latch.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I've owned a few '66 & '67 GTO's in the past, but its been since the early 90's that I last had one. This car will be fun to clean up while preserving as much as I can. I just love these survivor type cars.

Here's a few more photos from last week after a good washing.

I learned from ordering the PHS that this car was originally delivered to a different dealer in Santa Rosa, CA... Talmadge Babe Wood Co. Must have been a dealer trade to Lee Pontiac in Davis.

The only component I've found not to be original is the alternator. Something I will want to replace later with a correct numbered & dated part.

Was nice to see the original water pump still in place. Will need to change the original nylon cam sprocket when I get into it.
