I can't see the 1st number of the date code, and I don't see a plant or pick code, so it might be a SR carb....The complete date code and a few more photos might be helpful in determining authenticity. The value is partly determined by if it's a production line carb or a SR.

Let's go past the stampings and look at the pad. Definitely fake.

I would send any pictures to Cliff and show them to him, and see what he thinks.

206
which puts it last week of July
pretty early for a model year change but plausible
Scott dont be so quick to judge from one example.

I see what you're saying ... looks like the whole pad was milled down about 60 thousandths.

my immediate reaction to that one (I haven't read the other replies yet):

RUN AWAY!!!!

Obvious fake. Wonder what kind of damage the bowl section sustained when it was clamped in a vise and had the part number pad milled down?

Agree after taking a second look (and consulting with Maury Povich).

7040273: $2K to $5K range. Not sure if they actually sell for that

7040270: $1K to $4K range.

Not sure if the 7040270 was offered as a service replacement. You'll see 7029270 SRs in the $500 to $2K range

There are more fake -270 and -273 carbs than real ones produced by GM. Year One used to sell restamped carbs. The carb in question may be one of the Year One restamps.

OK thanks
I ll put this one on the shelf for a driver.
wonder if they even rejet according to the application
or just a run what you brung

PY also used to sell restamped carbs in late 80's early 90's .
A satellite supplier furnished them to PY for resale.
Supposedly they were matched internally for the application.

But I don't think this is one from the PY source - those were not recolored.
And they only had the 7 digit ID stamp

I bought one of those for my 69 GTO 4 speed, not knowing they were restamped.
Still on the car today…

A friend bought a 7040270 RA carb from them (PY) , knowing it was a stamped unit.
What he didn't expect was for it to be a Carter core.

Sort of defeated his intentions - but he used it anyway and it worked great.
