Removing/Reinstalling Doors

So I have to take my doors off, was trying to avoid it but it's got to be done. Last time I reinstalled them I did a great job, gaps are great and they close like a dream.

I've heard people drill small 1/16 alignment holes prior to removal to get them back in the same place. What's the skinny on that? Two holes in each hinge flap as far apart as possible? Pin punch or similar to realign for installation?

I used 1/8" holes with drill rod for realignment, 1/16" would bend easily.

1/8" it will be then. How did it work, were you happy with the results?

There are options to drilling holes that will put you back in the same location. PM if you like.

Just drilled the holes in the body side this afternoon, way forward under where the fender will cover so they won't be seen. For the time being going to leave the hinges bolted to the doors. They are going to be off for a while, figure holes will survive whatever mayhem takes place while they are off.

Please post here if you have the time. I’m interested in your method.

This method works fine to get you close, but you will still find you have some fine adjusting that needs to be done. Way easier and safer than not using this method.

Do you have to do this to the upper and lower hinges or just upper? Does the alignment hole method work if you change the hinge pins?
On my car I'm going to have to change the upper pins and the lower hinges, so I'm not sure how I'm going to get it to line up.

Yes upper and lower, to get them straight again. The pin change may not affect too much, but a hinge change causes the challenge.
