Dougs D521 Headers on 64 Full Size

Has anyone tried to use the 65-68 Dougs D521 Headers on a 63 or 64 GP or Fullsize Pontiac?

I have a 64 GP 4SPD Manual. Installing a 73 455 with Kauffman Heads.
Using the 65 and later bellhousing, 65 and later crossmember and mount, and Mini Starter.

Not sure where the interference would be, Steering Box?

Thanks, Rich

Not sure about this particular combination, but I know that you need to install an oil filter housing adapter in order to use the factory headers on our '64 and earlier cars. This may apply to the '65 and later too. If you don't install oil filter housing adapter, the back of the header runs into the oil filter. I believe our host sells this item, as well as others.

Yes. I know if using the Factory Long Branch Manifolds the oil filter adapter is required
I had this set up on the car about 20 years ago
I was wondering if the Dougs D521 4 tube headers would fit I. The 64 frame
with the later style engine and bell housing
Thank you for the reply AZ64GP

UPDATE
OK, i bought a set of the Doug's D521R headers for 65-68 Full size Pontiac to try on my 1964 PONTIAC GP.
Unfortunately, they DO NO FIT. A real shame because they are VERY WELL made.
Passenger Side., the rear tube hits against the firewall. I modified the rear tube to clear
and that side fits well.

The Driver Side is where the real problem is. The second tube back hits the steering box
and even after cutting and rewelding that tube it still hits.
So i decided to go with a set of MADDOG Headers and am waiting for them to show up.
I will be putting the Doug's D521 on here for sale. They are Raw Steel not coated.

Thanks, Rich

Are you getting the MDH-MD9147RD from Butler? I’m also looking for options for round port heads in a ‘63 Catalina. Was hoping to get long branch cast manifolds from a RARE. Still waiting on the new production in the works.

Rich cant you move the steering box around? Or does it need to moved too much? There's a lot of steel in that area on the 64 B body, its not like the A body..

Those Long Branches are a sweet heart, in case you neve had them..

Steering Box and Long Branches

Hi 389, I probably could but did not want to modify the car too much.
The Mad Dog Headers, D PORT, showed up today and look great
I had them raise the collector by about 2 inches so they don't point
towards the ground.

Also ordered a set of Long Branches from Ram Air Restorations.
Waiting for them to arrive.
I had a set on the car 20 years ago and really like them.
I want to try both now and see if there is much of a difference power wise
I will start with the Headers then try the Long Branches.
See what happens

Thanks
