OER 70-73 Tail Light Bezels

Thought I'd purchase a pair to see how good they were. If they started out correct, they ruined them before they were chromed (see pics comparing original to theirs). Apparently all of their stock is currently this way. They've been contacted regarding the matter -- we'll see if they do anything about it. Should be an easy correction. Don't buy any, if you were planning to -- at least not in the near future.

Well I am waiting on a few more pieces for the kick panel and interior project, so I decided to clean up and polish the taillight lenses. I used a 3M headlight restoration kit and they came out fantastic. The kit include a foam sanding pad with velcro on one end to hold the sanding discs. The other end is bare foam for applying the final polish. It includes sanding discs of the following grits - 500, 800, 1000, 3000, and it also includes a liquid polishing compound. Everything is hand applied as opposed to being applied with a drill or rotary tool. I wasn't thrilled after applying the final polish with the liquid polishing compound, so I did a final polish using Griots Machine Polish 3. This final step made a big difference.

While I was at it, I also replaced the taillight bezels. I purchased repops from OER and was pretty pleased with the quality. They claim to be triple chrome plated and seemed to be as heavy as the originals, but the casting quality on the back side was not as nice as you might expect. The chrome finish was probably a 9 out of 10. There was one big problem though in that the holes for the studs were metric instead of SAE. You have to remove the studs from the old bezels and reuse them, so this presented a problem. It was possible to re-tap the holes to the proper size, but it seems like a big oversight and they will hear about it. Here's a bunch of pictures....

I have a set on mine. After about 6 years or so they started to pit. The car is garage kept and never sees inclement weather.

I didn't get around to finding out about the metric thread problem.
