Found, Guide Headlamps

I found the Low Beam Guide headlamps today at the Packard Swap, now I have all 4. The lows were hard to find.

Congrats Burd!

It took me almost a month of looking to find one low beam I needed for #202. I ended up finding one in a local salvage yard that has a bunch of old school cars. Mine was the small font "sealed beam".

You mean NOS Guide headlights? Wouldn't have thought used ones would be too hard on older, original cars being parted. I even had a nosecone shipped over that had them in it, 1 or 2 were cracked from lousy packing.

The '76-'77 coarse fluted rectangular headlamps are getting tough to find. I have collected 50 of them over the years, even finding a few on E-Bay new in the box.

Aus78Formula 06-13-2016 09:13 AM

They are only getting harder to find since you have 50 of them!

77 Canamman 06-13-2016 11:07 AM

I am always buying them, still. You can't have enough....

78Macho 06-13-2016 04:31 PM

...and where were you when I was looking for one? Do you only buy or do you share too?

burd 06-13-2016 06:11 PM

No, not nOS, I've never seen them in nOS or I would nab them up. I did see a nOS large round lamp Sunday at the swap, these were identical so I bought them, I have one that I bought that is a guide Halogen, prob 1980 or 1981

Last summer I went through a yard that had a pile of 80 cars. Thought some of them might have the guide headlamps. Didn't find even one. Just Gotta be hard to find for our 70's cars.

These are the 1978-up fine fluted bulbs. Only sold for $31..

Nice. I've been collecting for 20 years, I've never seen nos lamps at the swaps, here there are the same 2-3 guys selling T3's at the swaps but not these. Sunday at the Zoackard swap, a guy had the large round ones , still in the Delco pkg.

68ragtop 06-15-2016 09:26 AM

This sounds petty, but I was kinda sad when I saw the T3's being repoped.
I have a full set up hi/low T3's that came from my late father in laws lemans that I striped for parts over 13 yeas ago. They might even be the original ones, as he bought the car new in 68. I was excited to have them & even more so when I found they all worked. Is there a way to tell them apart from the repops? Any date codes on the original T3's?

burd 06-15-2016 09:46 AM

No one ever takes the time to do a repop rite on, there's got to be a diff.
I always look at the headlamps, you hardly ever see the orig lamps on. I look at the German cars up at Cars and Coffee on Woodward, most don't have the orig type in, Lol I happy to have one more thing factory on my car.

You all got me curious since I haven't paid attention to whether I have some original bulbs still in my project cars or not. I have 4 79 TA's and an 81 Esprit. Between them all, there are 10 original Guide bulbs. One 79 has all 4 originals in it, which was a pleasant surprise. And those 2 low beams are the only original low beams out of the 10. So, at least in my yard, the low beams are much scarcer than the highs. Makes sense, since the lows obviously got more use than the highs. So, that was something fun to look at.

I've never thought about it until last year at the dustoff, a car had all 4 guide lamps in it.
What year started the halogen bulbs?

77 Canamman 06-16-2016 09:46 AM

The 1977 OEM Guide headlamps are very easy to spot, even at 15 feet away.

In the USA, somewhere between 1985-1987 I believe.

They were in a mix of Trans am lamps from the Trans Am Reaper, but that doesn't mean they came on that car new. we thought 80-81.
