Finally some progress

I took some pics of motor trans numbers after pulling them out of the car. I pulled them to change oil pan gasket and rear main seal. It’s painted (except I have to repaint the oil pan now) and just waiting on gaskets to reinstall.

I was able to confirm my trans and motor both matched the vin so I was happy about that. There’s 68k miles on it. The only thing that I could see was the timing chain had been replaced. I’ll reinstall it next week and upload some pics.

I painted the manifolds but I’m repainting them a darker shade.

Looks great!

Looking good! Another Arlington car built around the same time as mine. They must have been cranking them out!

That's a manual trans right?

supersport#69 07-23-2020 09:13 PM

Yes it’s a 4 speed Muncie but not sure if wide or close.

Looks terrific, nice work! From the oil pan drain plug, it appears that you have a later model oil pan instead of a 1968-69 pan. Those pans had the drain plug in the center rear of the sump, facing toward the rear of the car.

Feels good don't it :)

Oh ok. That’s a bit odd original owner would change out the pan. Maybe damaged. Hopefully my gaskets hold up and don’t leak.

Drivers rocker had some damage from an old accident so pan was probably damaged too.

I’m thankful it’s never been rebuilt and still has original carb and exhaust manifolds. The distributor had a later date so that was probably swapped at some point. There’s about 69k on the engine. The Muncie hasnt been open either and shifts fine, although I did resurface flywheel and replace the clutch since it’s out.
Knock on wood it’s got a lot of cruising left in it before having to rebuild.
