67 GP Convert 428 4 speed
 

I thought I would share some pictures of my latest find. Also thanks to someone here that originally posted the CL listing that led me to the car. It is originally a 428 (now has a 400) and will be returned to a 428 car. Factory 4 speed, A/C with autotemp control, P/W, buckets with headrests and passenger reclining, power trunk release, power antenna, AM/FM, PB and PS.

I am looking to make it a triple black car and would like to add the following if anyone has something to sell:

8 lugs
cornering lights
power seat track
under hood light
8 track

What color was it originally?

I realize it's your car, but for such a desirable and rare vehicle, it would be a shame to modify such an interesting car with cornering lights. Not sure about this, but only 111 428-4 cars were built with manual trannys for both bodystyles. Would have to check my info to make sure, but you're dealing with a very rare car.

The car was originally red with white top and black interior. It is currently red/ black/ black.

I intend to restore the car as original other than a color change (hate red) and adding some additional factory options as I would have ordered it new.

It's your car, do as you wish. I changed my 67 GP conv to the way I wanted it.

I believe that correctly added factory available options add to rather than subtract from the car value. True some guys are purists to the buildsheet (and I can respect that) but I think they are out numbered.

Besides I think that the car would benefit (its already a really neat car) from cornering lamps, 8 lugs and a woodwheel, it goes with the personality of the car!

Nice find and a rare car indeed. Adding options that are correct for the year do nothing to harm it and only enhance it as well as making it more desireable too. They also dont affect it if you intend to show the car on national level either. I added some options to my 69 GTO that were correct for 69.

Changing color will affect value but as Steve said, its your car, do what makes you happy.

Great lookin ride... enjoy. I had added reel out trunk lamp, power trunk release and tilt column to the Gp convert I had, all period correct parts and stuff I wanted on the car.;)

Nice car. I like the red/black/black. If it had a white interior, then the white roof would be fine. 8 lugs will really make it look how it should. It is your car, do with it as you want. I see no issue with adding the cornering lamps.

I love the '67 GP convertibles and would love to find a nice driver. I would be fine with an auto so the old lady can drive it. Maybe in a year or two I will be looking.

I used to hate red as well--but, somehow, seeing 18'6" of red in your garage--day in, day out--it grows on you!

I have a set of cornering lamps from a '69. I am not sure if they are the same for '67.

I also have an underhood utility lamp (the reel out style).

One other item you might consider is a SafeGuard speedometer. I have a very good one, complete with wiring harness, buzzer, and low fuel indicator light out of a '68 GP. I am sure it will work in your car.

Hey nice 67 i just purchased a 68 gp 428ho 4 speed with the car though i got a ton of parts I think i have two sets of the side front marker lights do you know if 67 and 68 are the same Thanks Joe

I believe the '67 and '68 428 only came in the HO version. In '69 they introduced the 428 small valve, 46 head version, as standard equipment on Bonnevilles, optional on all other "B" bodies. GP could get a 370 hp 428 (different heads and cam) or the 390 hp 428 HO. The 390 hp 428 HO was available on all "B" bodies and the GP's. To the best of my knowledge only about 900+/- "B" body cars had the HO motor and about 1200+/- GP had the HO motor.

I agree that a 428 HO motor will add value but it is not likely to be dramatic unless you find that "guy" out there who just has to have one.

I was being somewhat facetious about the HO because I don't think adding options increases the value of a car. Rather, a car's value is dependent on its pedigree.

Otherwise, as far as I know, there were four engine choices for the 1967 GP:

400/350 (standard)
400 2bbl.
428/370
428/390 (HO)

I obtained numbers from the GM Heritage Center and I can tell you that 559 Grand Prix were built with the HO while 1,227 were built with the regular 428.

67 and 68 came in two versions, the regular 428 and the HO

According to the paperwork that I have there were (2) 428's available in 67, the standard rated at 360HP and the HO at 376HP.

1967 engine production for all cars shows 824 "WG" , or standard 428 manual transmission cars built. There were also 5098 428's with auto trans and several hundred more in HO, AIR, and Police versions built.

If you want to add cornering lamps, don't forget to change to the correct directional light switch!!

Gotta ask: what make the difference between the 428 and the 428 HO parts-wise? Is it only cam? cam and head?
