Can you remove sump in car, in an 87 GTA?

A member of our club ( Camaro Firebird Owners club of Australia) has asked me to find out if it is possible to remove the sump, whilst still installed in car, and if it is possible, what to watch out for as he has hit something on the road, dented the sump and now it is making awful noises.

Probably easier to replace the complete tank with a new one.
