Homeowners insurance question

During one of the windstorms, a branch fell and ripped my pool liner. It is covered under my homeowners insurance. However, I have never filed an insurance claim, thus far, in my life. I assume my premium will go up or something will be tacked on for 5 years... Just weighing what would be the most beneficial- paying for the new liner/ repairs myself or through the insurance.
First hand experiences I would greatly appreciate!

I would also assume your premiums will increase but expect them to stay higher rather than come down after five years.

Depending how much liner replacement would be and what your deductible is, determine whether I'd turn it in.

Talk to your insurance agent. Ask them if your premiums will increase? Also, check your deductible. You may be better off to pay for the liner.

How much does a new liner cost is the first question. $100, $10,000?

$4000-$6000

If it were me, I’m turning in the claim. If your premium goes up, shop for new insurance. It’s a good idea to do that every few years anyway.

Turning in a claim won't necessarily raise your rates. You've been paying in premiums, you may as well get some benefit out it. Talk to your agent.

I've had a few claims over the years and wasn't punished for them.

I had a cpvc pipe crack in the winter (frozen pipe) on a policy I had held for 16 years. The damage to the house was Approx. 10K. I had a 1k deductible, the insurance company would not renew my policy the next year. I paid them about $1400.00 per year for 16 years and they dropped me for a 9k expense. It does happen sometimes. Insurance is a funky business.

I’d make the claim for that.
