Tire Rotation
Hello guys, I have 8,000 miles on my '06 GTO with 17" wheels. What would be the propper way to rotate the tires? Thanks, Peter

This is right from the manual >
Tire Inspection and Rotation Tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles (8 000 to 13 000 km). Any time you notice unusual wear, rotate your tires as soon as possible and check wheel alignment. Also check for damaged tires or wheels. See When It Is Time for New Tires on page 5-63 and Wheel Replacement on page 5-66 for more information. The purpose of regular rotation is to achieve more uniform wear for all tires on the vehicle. The first rotation is the most important. See Scheduled Maintenance on page 6-4. When rotating non-directional tires, always use the correct rotation pattern shown here. If your vehicle has 235/40ZR18 tires, they must roll in a certain direction for the best overall performance. The direction is shown by an arrow on the tire sidewall. Because these tires are uni-directional, they should be rotated as shown here. These tires should only be moved from front to rear and rear to front on the same side of the vehicle. Don’t include the compact spare tire in your tire rotation. |

I know...smart a$$, but couldn't resist. Install new on front, rotate front to back, have fun for half the summer, new on front, rotate front to back, finish off at end of summer. Start process over in spring of following year.

now would be a very good time to check for strut rub while you are in there. look for shiny spots on the front struts. I would also check the inside edge of you front tires very closely. get an alignment if the struts are polished up at all.

Non directional vs. directional tires
How can you tell the difference between the two. I have 17's. Any help is appreciated. Peter

Rotate them at least every 8K miles and you'll get more miles that you thought possible in a car with this much power and handling.:D I got 38K out of mine with that schedule and was on pace to get 50K out of the Y-rated Bridstone RE050's that replaced them before I sold it too. :2cents: |
