1969 GTO Dash Emblem?

I've noticed that some 1969 GTO's have an emblem in the top center of the dash board while others don't. Can anyone clarify this for me. Thanks in advance,

They put that emblem on from the beginning of production untill the end of February. March 1st cars and on the emblem was deleted. Funny part of that is what most people don't know is ironically That's the same date they started putting the Judge glove box emblems on. I see it all the time with restored car that have both. They either had one or the other.

Thank you, couldn't figure that out after seeing many fantastic 1969's at the Ames/Pypes show last week.

I believe there are some February Judges with neither the GTO name plate nor the Judge emblem on the glove box. This thread has some info on that:

There is a service bulletin that supports what I posted. I also remember lots of owners adding the judge emblem back in the day before we knew for sure that early cars didn't receive them.

Excellent, solved my next question of the missing rear lower quarter molding to. Mine is a June build.

I owned a Starlight Black 01C built Judge that had the dash emblem, glovebox emblem, parking brake trim, and lower quarter molding. That was back before the internet in the early 90s. I saw a magazine article about a Judge that was built this way and it was said it only happened the first week of March.

Remembering a wrecked 69 that sat behind a house near me back in the late 70s. Had dash emblem and Judge sticker on the glove box.
Early Baltimore built Judges were weird that way.

My July 69 Fremont built convertible was built with the lower quarter trim (I suspect it was never deleted on convertibles) but it has many late features like...
later parking brake pad (with no trim and park lettering)
aluminum rocker moldings (instead of stainless)
hard plastic windlace at rear of door opening (instead of cardboad-vinyl)
70 style intake with closed areas between the ports
two added holes on the upper rad support
galvanized gas tank straps (early cars seem to have had painted ones)

I've also noticed that some late production Pontiac plant built 69 GTO's don't have the 5 pce trunk lid chrome trim

Thread revive, I've owned several 69 GTO's (but none now) that had the GTO dash emblem. What I'm wondering about is the bezel part of the emblem. All three of mine by memory (two have photo record) and my friend who has two cars now are all black framed but I noticed the repro is chrome framed. However my friend had a 69 GTO new and he says his had a chrome frame also. Is it possible this was an early vs late thing (black frame, then chrome frame and then no emblem)? All 3 of my cars and my friend's two gto's are sept-nov cars. Maybe jan-feb were chrome edged?

I did some online research, looked at photos that predate repro emblem and here's what I found. About 95% are black framed but I did find 2 LeMans' with chrome emblem (and one with a black one) as well as one GTO with chrome and probably 20+ with black. One of the chrome emblemed LeMans' had a 10D build date.

My 1C Baltimore Judge has a black framed emblem.

Mine is still on there.

I just found an old pic from the 80’s of my friend’s 69 GTO, it has the chrome frame emblem.

I have a 1969 GTO Convertible (AC, hideaways). It currently does NOT have any emblem on the dash. It was restored before my ownership. The data plate says it was built in Baltimore during the second week of April 1969.

Can someone post a picture of the exact emblem this car should have on the dash and its location? It would be much appreciated.

north 11-06-2019 09:12 PM

The emblem was only used on non AC cars and only till late February. It mounted about where the center AC vent went on AC cars.

Thanks for the quick reply, that makes sense.

Here is the black framed version, as mentioned the vast majority were this way.
