stock 455 crankshaft bobweight spec
Hey- just wondering if anyone knew off hand what the crank bobweight value was for a stock 455 crank- Eagle lists their stock cast 455 crank bobweight at 2280 gm., but I would imagine that is targeting forged rods, and light forged pistons as in their rotating assemblies- Thanks,

I have no clue. Curious, does the material make a slight difference. Armasteel or nodular iron casting. In an attempt to shed engine weight and improve fuel economy during the mid 1970s, Pontiac lightened its V-8 crankshaft of the era as well. The casting isn’t quite as robust as earlier examples.
https://www.pontiacdiy.com/pontiac-v...ormance-guide/ The obvious, since different rods and different pistons are different weights, it is impossible to make a crankshaft that is balanced "right out of the box" for any rod and piston combination. All crankshafts must be balanced to your specific rod and piston combination. . |
The one I built this year with Eagle rods and Icon forged pistons with a stock 455 crank was 2190.6 g.

'70 455 crank
6.625 Carrillo steel rods Custom 4.181 JE pistons 2216.4 bob weight . |
This is not a stock crank however for reference, the engine I'm building right now shows my bobweight with a 4.5 Scat crank/6.7 H-Beam's and Carillo Pistons has the bobweight @ 2181
I have a 455 crank for sale if interested. Its at the machine shop getting cleaned up... so I will have details once I get it back. SPEED SAFE, NICK |

Is the 2181 what it was adjusted to, or what is was before balancing ? |
