Seatbelts?
 

Anyone have front seat belts for a 73-74 Lemans? ANY color is fine, I just want my son to be safe in the front seat with me and original seatbelts wore out and won't click.

Thanks in advance (black is best but I'll take pink for safety first reasons).

If you want to go back to original, then 73's are different from 74 and later ones. They're a one year only belt in 73, with the shoulder belt being a separate belt that stows up next to the headliner, and it's not retractable. So, using the should belt is optional. If you want to use it, then you take it down and connect it to your lap belt before you click the buckle together.

Looks like you have a 74, so you really need 74-77 belts, with retractable shoulder belts that are also connected to the lap belt.

Another consideration is what kind of seats you have. A standard seat uses different seat belts than a power seat. The standard seat uses a different lower outer belt assembly, where the seat belt assembly is also the perch that the rear outer leg of the seat stands on and is bolted to.

If you have a power seat, the lower outer seat belt assembly is a stand-alone unit that bolts to the floor behind the outer corner of the front seat.

If you have power driver side, and manual passenger side, then you use the power seat belt setup on the driver side, and manual setup on the passenger side. I don't think it matters whether you have buckets or a bench seat. The important thing is if it's power or not.

Also, the belts need to be matching belts. For example the belt with the blade has to be the matching belt to the one with the receiver buckle. You can't mix and match, since there were 2 or 3 different blade and buckle types and shapes, and they aren't interchangeable. They have to be the same type for the blade to work with the buckle.

And it doesn't have to be Lemans. It can be any of the 74-77 GM A-body cars, like Chevelle, Cutlass, Regal, Century, Grand Am, etc.

Thanks GrandAm73. You're absolutely right, I left out some relevant info.

I have a 74 Sportcoupe with factory bucket seats and floor shift, so its the retractable belts that work with the buckets (not bench). And yup, doesn't have to be a Lemans, can be GrandAm or even Grand Prix? to work.

I've tried Ebay for months but never see them for sale.

Yes, I forgot about Grand Prix, and also Monte Carlo would work too.

I always like to try to find originals, since that's always better looking. But, I'm sure you're aware there are aftermarket alternatives. They may not look or fit like original, or even be retractable, but they can be bolted in and serve the purpose.

Thanks again Steve, yeah looking for original retractable ones, they just as comfortable in my opinion as my wife "modern" car!

I have a very similar car, a 75 Lemans Sport Coupe that I've had as my driver for the last 16 years. It had 62K miles when I bought it in '02, and now has 169K miles, and still running good.

I have a set of front's I pulled out of my '74 Lemans GT. They were N.O.S. a few year's ago and work great, they are blue and the female buckle side are saddle colored so they would need to be dyed. Pulled them out when I finally found the right color belt's for mine! I would sell these for $50.00 plus the shipping if interested?
