SoCal GTO Restoration

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for restoration shops in SoCal that have some knowledge of GTOs. Would like to get my 69 judge painted. Its got some minor rust (socal car), including rear window and fender heels. Not bad. Original paint. Not looking to spend $45k on a paint job as I was recently quoted here in San Diego. Would like a nice job for $20k or less.

Thanks for any recommendations!
Fred

Maybe give this place a try:

R.W. Autobody/ Jon Vercoutere

Ask for Jon. The shop is small, but he's a Pontiac guy. He painted my friend's 1968 Firebird the original color of Nightshade green (attached pics). This car was at the 18th show n shine last month.

and no, the car wasn't leaking. That was water in the driveway, ha ha

I'm in San Diego. I'm curious, who quoted $45K?

I have heard good things about Carlsbad Village Autobody.

I am very happy with the results and the cost of the paint job done on my car two years ago. For reference, Jim Wangers cars have been painted there as well. The shop is TLC Auto Body in San Marcos, and the owner is Sal. You are welcome to come to my house and check out my car if you like. I'm in Escondido.

B/T/W, Wangers had his '69 Judge painted there. My car did didn't need an significant body work, but I had a metal hood scoop added that caused him a lot of work to smooth out. He did a lot of other little things and the bill was less than $15K.

Are you looking for more than paint like frame off, suspension, engine trans etc?Paint is hard enough.Tom

I must have been going brain dead. This is what my post was supposed to say, but it was too late to edit it.

Sorry for being missing in action on this thread I started. - Thanks for the suggestions.

So Cal Paint Works seems to be the only shop in San Diego that specializes in restoration. They seem plenty busy with rich people's cars, so they threw out a quote of $45k for a paint job.

I contacted Sal at TLC about a year ago, he was going to stop by for an estimate (motor is out of car - at Paul Carter's shop in Tuscon) but I never could get him to stop over. He's probably too busy also.

Wish I knew auto body, it seems there is room in the market for more restoration businesses here.

Anybody heard of Tom's GTO's in Frasier Park? Its pretty far from San Diego but I'm not finding local options.

If it were me, (and this is what I did to get quotes for my restoration), I’d have your car towed to these shops for estimates. Driving to and from someone’s house to give a quote is a big time-sucker.
