Well, unfortunately she's broke. Started knocking hard on the road just outside Norwalk after having run an 8.500 @ 159 earlier this morning. Not sure what happened. Autopsy will have to wait for a week or so. We're going to finish out Drag Week with my wife's 71 and my son's 86. We'll pick her up on the way home from Michigan on Saturday. Fortunately one of my son's buddies and a random stranger with a an old Ford truck and a tow strap stopped to help. We stashed it in my son's friend's garage in Belvue just outside Norwalk.
This ain't over, we'll be back!

Sorry to hear bud. I was pulling for you. It sure unloaded the tires hard in the right lane on that mid 10 second pass @ 157 mph. Hopefully it isn’t too bad. You all put so much work into it.

Hooter 09-14-2021 10:40 PM

Damn shame. Hopefully cya Thursday at Byron.

I'm pretty sure that's where we hurt it

On our way home with the car right now (Saturday). Autopsy will be tomorrow. I'll post pics and assessment after that. Didn't feel up to tearing it down in our buddy's garage. Didn't want to wear out our welcome. Awesome individual to offer up his home to us. There are still some great people left in this world. Hard to find lately. Just goes to show again that the Pontiac community is an awesome bunch of folks. Thank you Andrew Taylor!

Just got done tearing it down. So, we didn't break a rod and the bottom end is still solid! We lost an exhaust lifter. On the number 5 exhaust lifter the roller is gone. Found all of the parts in the pan. First clue was rocker was off that valve. I guess we were hearing popping back into the intake. Sure sounded like a bottom end knock but with everything being sheet aluminum it gave off a different kind of sound. More like a knock. Unfortunately the cam is hurt and there is some minor shrapnel damage on the underside of pistons 5 & 6. But nothing a little dremel work can't fix. I'm just glad to see the rotating assembly in tact. Big relief.
