Small Electrical Issue...... Help

Instead of chasing my tail.... figured I would ask first

Brake lights work fine on their own

Directionals Work fine on their own

Left Directional and Brake applied..... Left blinks - right brake light is illuminated ...

Here is the issue....

Right Directional On...... Brake lights on left do NOT come on.....

Thoughts?

It has to be the turn signal switch. Try watching the lights and having someone wiggle the turn signal lever while stepping on the brakes. They'll probably flash on and off as contact is made.

After doing some research..... I am afraid it was going to be that....

I just do not see myself ripping apart a 50 year old column .....

So I have some good friends who have done this job..... and will help me. Some say its cake..... others say its a PIA but not too bad....

I see that there is a AC Delco type or a Boyne type switch...... How can I tell the difference?

I would double check all the bulbs, front and rear, and confirm all the grounds.
Tilt columns are a bit touchy. Non-tilt is fairly easy.
A lock plate removal tool and steering wheel puller is needed for both.
Dont forget to disconnect the delicate PRND2L cable before lowering the column.

Standard column and 4 speed..... So that should make it somewhat easier...

All bulbs work...... everything works perfect unless right directional is on and I press on brake pedal..... Brake lights on left side do not come on.... only then

You sure bulbs are in correctly and correct filament (single or dual)?

How long have you owned the car? Has some PO had a wiring "genius" put in a fancy stereo system? I have seen some real messes made by those electrical gurus.

I bought her in 2001 - so long time owner..... and its a very original car..... when I got it, it was nearly 100% original.....

In that case, and considering the bulbs all check out, it's time to follow the path of getting into the steering column and see what's there..

Follow up.....

Finally replaced directional switch..... with the help of a friend ( I got in a little over my head ) .....

Issue is fixed.....

M&H Harness makes beautiful products.....
