1936 Pontiac

I just picked up this 36 Pontiac. Being a GTO/Firebird guy, I know very little about these early cars. Can anyone decode the trim tag for me? And where is the VIN tag on this thing?

Thanks,

Cool ride or sure!! I believe the model # indicates a 36 2dr 6cyl touring sedan.
The vin should be on the top of the drivers side frame rail at the firewall.

Thank you! I found the VIN, exactly where you said it would be.

Very cool! Don't know much but google tells me the 2611 was the Deluxe 6 cyl 2 dr. Touring Sedan, 2611A was the Master.

The lower end 6 was the Master. The Deluxe had knee action independent front suspension vs. the solid front axle on the Master series.

The Deluxe had translucent dash knobs, black bakelite on the Master among other Deluxe "upgrades",

The Paint Code 16 is Black. Pontiac had 14 other standard colors in 1936, not sure if they were added cost but Black seems to have been all the rage during the Depression!

Trim Code 30 was Taupe Plush.

Found this which has a lot of extra info.

So what's the plan??!!

John,

Thanks for the info. Mine is the Deluxe 6.

Plans for the moment are to repair the wood framing in the doors (or rebuild with steel) so they're functional, then try to get it running. If the original engine runs ok, I'll leave it stock and drive it as it is while I slowly fix the body. If the original engine is junk, I'll drop in one of the Pontiac V8s I have laying around. I do plan on keeping the body original.
