70 GTO. Had the car three years and want to put ac belt on and see what happens. Everything seems to be there. Problem is I can’t get compressor to get loose enough to get belt on. Do any other bolts need to be loosened other than the two on bracket that go into block?

There should be a bolt at the rear of the compressor down low

Got it, thanks. Could anybody give me the length of the 2 spacers that go between the large aluminum compressor mounting bracket and the engine block? I found somebody had used a lug nut on mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ames sells the spacers. If they are in question, just replace them.

A/C belts are a tight fit, just bump it on.

I measured my "spacers" and they appear to be 1"

Isn't 70 a conversion year for the bracket setups? Some got the 69 type setup, some got the 70-71-72 type setup.
It appears you have the 69 setup, just to say. So the spacers that Ames sells would work. Would be good to keep that all in mind, in the event you need other parts. Ransom - Do you know the cutoff years? Were there applications that also used the diff water pump height like on the 'birds? I would think that would impact the spacers or the forward bracket, correct? . |
