I'm stoked ... it's on the truck coming back ... 9,200 miles all original and all stock ... including the tires (which will be for sale - mint Gatorbacks!)

What number is it? Was it one of the parade cars?

I would hold on to the tires - just take them off for storage.

Good luck with it.

It's #830 or 831 ... PHS will settle that discrepency when I send for the info this week.

It was not one of the Festival Cars but as you're probably aware this was the first Pace Car in Indy history that had absolutely no engine, suspension, break, tranny, modifications to pace the race. They randomly chose 5 cars of the 1555 to hit the race track and only added strobe lights and a flag. This car is a factory race car and the fastest Trans Am produced (yep even faster than the SD cars.)

Out of the box it can get 4.8/13.2

It is basically the Buick GNX motor with added improvements two years later to the crank, heads, etc.

From what I understand this engine was basically a "detuned" race engine and not a 'hopped up' regular car engine.

As for the tires it seems to me if I store them that I risk them getting dry rotted?

Neat car! Looks like you found a good one there 70ra455. A friend of mine has a couple of them and is letting go of a very low mile cloth Festival car if anyone has interest.

Hey Unc!!

I have definite interest in the car. Yes, even though I just bought one. Let me know details either through PM or phone call 908-208-7778 (live in Mich but have NJ exchange)

Thanks

Phil

If you have a basement and have room. store them there. As long as they are stored in a cool dry place they'll last a long time. While your at it. Store each tire in a sealed black plastic garbage bag.

I will give you a call Phil.

Look forward to hearing about it.

Congrats!
You know me as mr.turbota over on TTA.com.
I too, would keep the tires off to the side.

Awesome car you are so lucky! A year after I graduated H.S. there was one in a local used car lot and could not scrape to gether the cash or get a loan when your 18 and have no credit. Anyway good luck with her!!!!!!

Car arrived today ... while I'm in Boston visiting my dad who is very ill. I'll see it when I return this weekend. Kinda hard to be excited at this point.

Overkillphil 09-15-2009 10:54 AM

Awesome car to own! Good luck with it.

I had one and reluctantly sold it to a guy in Maryland a few years ago. It lived up to all the hype I had heard about them. That car was just scary. It would go as fast as you had the balls to hit the accelerator. Here is a pic of it sitting on the backstretch at Daytona in '07.

70ra455 09-23-2009 01:54 AM

Finally took it out ... whoa ... the best driving Pontiac I've ever owned!

428 78T/A 09-24-2009 08:08 PM

Beautiful car!

Saw one on another board with 55,xxx, for $14,7xx. Wondering if that's a good price.

Pontiacmuscle 09-24-2009 08:17 PM

These cars used the same engine as the Grand Nationals; is that accurate?

70ra455 09-25-2009 12:39 AM

The GNX's actually with improvements ... 4.7 / 13.2 out of the box.

70ra455 09-25-2009 12:49 AM

That price isn't bad. Depends on condition of car of course.

blue goats 10-02-2009 04:26 PM

Heads are different than buicks if I remember right.

Overkillphil 10-02-2009 04:49 PM

Yep, Pontiac used the "3800" (fwd) heads for "packaging" reasons in the TTA. Hmmm, thinking it had something to do with the AC box and fitment issues.
