Original Air rotary compressor, Pro6Ten, or s6
 

The AC compressor in my 1980 Trans Am (all 1979 parts on the ac) is leaking at the front seal. The ac has been converted to R134 and works really well.

I'm wanting to replace the compressor with a newer, lower drag unit that will hopefully perform a little better.

I'm looking at the rotary compressor, new lines, and drier from Original Air, a pro6ten or an S6.

Obviously the pro6ten or S6 will be the easiest swap as they are direct replacements for the A6.

Is there a performance difference between the 3 different compressors?

The A6 runs all the time and pulls more power to run (about 15 hp) compared to the S6 at 5 HP.

I don't know about an '80 TA but, I have a '69 GTO and replaced the original A6 with a Pro6Ten 10 years and 30,000 miles ago and it's worked fine and given no trouble. Was a direct bolt in and pulls noticeable less HP.

I'm leaning towards the pro6ten due to the easy swap. I haven't been able to find any comparisons between it and the I'm assuming sanden compressors. If the sanden was noticeably better in performance, then I'd go that route as originality is not a priority for my build. I like things to look factory where possible but in this case, performance definitely trumps appearance.

I definitely am looking forward to less drag on the motor. The A6 isnt bad on the highway but its noticeable around town and at idle.
