#17 Cylinder Heads bare F/S

Bare Pontiac heads off a 1968 350. Small valve heads, pressed rocker studs. Chambers measure ~83 cc’s. Should be great for a 400 build at 9.5:1 comp ratio. Was going to use these for a 400 build but went in a different direction. $50 plus shipping. Located in western WA.

I think Jim Robertson was looking for some of these. Might have been 15s ?

Jim is looking for the elusive #18 1968 350 HO head.

Sorry to hijack, but what makes these so desirable?

When you want to build a correct engine you need the correct casting # heads, when’s the last time you saw a 1968 350 HO ?

In 1969 the 350 HO shared the same #48 casting as the RAIII and manual trans 400 engines, the 1968 350 HO had its own specific head casting.

Likely the biggest and only difference between the #18 HO head and the #17 would have been combustion chamber volumes, the #18 surely had a smaller chamber for a higher compression ratio. Both heads have small 1.96”/1.66” valves and press-in rocker studs.

Jim has his reasons and that’s enough.

I suppose another way to look at it, if you really wanna build an iron headed 350, the #18 heads have a tight 66cc chamber and small valves. Tight chamber to get your CR up and smol valves to avoid shrouding. Not many open chamber Poncho heads fit that bill.

Couple things I forgot to mention:

Casting flash has been removed and the pushrod openings have been elongated for 1.65 rockers.

The valve guides are knurled, if that's important to you.

Price reduced, I’m just trying to get these to someone who’s gonna use em. Free local pickup, or whatever shipping is.

if I was passing anywhere near you I'd snap those up - but I have already been to Washington this year...

I sure hope these find a good home...

Looks like you’re up in Calgary, quite a drive. I’ve got some family up in Drumheller.

Yeah, hope someone can use em, they’re in pretty good shape and you’d get fresh seats when you step up to big valves.

I was thrilled to find em, but the cyl head guy at my machine shop quit. He originally quoted me at $1200 labor to set em up, got some new quotes and they were all around $2200. Decided at that price it’d be worth it to just snag some KRE d ports.

Yeah, I totally get it.

I have a second cousin who lives in Portland, and I pass through Washington state to go to his place - my route is wholly determined by where I want to stop.

Have any plans to come to South Dakota, maybe to see Mt Rushmore, Black Hills, or the Sturgis motorcycle rally, or to the Sioux Falls area on the other side of the state? Just trying to make something work for you to get these heads to me lol.

lol can’t say that I do. That all would be pretty cool to do. Perhaps in a year or so I’ll make it out to Yellowstone.
