I'm pretty sure this was Christmas 1964, my older brother and I got matching green Schwinn Stingray bicycles.

Those two Stingrays are 1964 Flamboyant Lime “Deluxe” models.

Ribbed Solo Polo seat with the square back seat strut.
Chrome plated fenders.

Those bikes in that “as new” condition are worth thousands!

Awesome old photo, thanks for sharing!

Chris.

I'm looking for another Huffy Drag Bike.. I had the Green Stiletto.. I liked the Huffy, it had the long frame and came with Shimano gears.. You could tilt forward in first and do a brake torque burn out with ease, I did them in second on red brick streets...

I live next to Bicycle Heaven. It's on our bike trail.. They have everything. They still have new Banna bikes in the box.. They have hundreds of Schwinns all in mint condition..

The Huffy Rail is killing it! I love the roller and the 'chute!

And I remember some of the neighborhood kids getting knees and elbows eaten up when those forks turned loose while doing a wheelie. I knew a kid named Arthur who missed about two weeks of school recovering from a landing with no front wheel.

Fun times!!
Kids today have no idea.

x2 on the Huffy Rail

Could the parachute be activated to pop open ?
Or was it for looks / storage compartment

Yep, witnessed a few of those face plants myself.

Got one hanging from rafters.

Had an Orange Krate when I was a kid.
Paper route, carriers on the side.
Sundays I'd hang a second set of carriers off the sides with S-hooks.
Get off the bike, it would wheelie and sit straight up without falling over.
Traded that bike for my first motorcycle.
Boy was my dad pissed!

If you get a chance to watch Ford vs Ferrari keep an eye out for Ken Miles son’s Sting-Ray. Pretty sweet!

I just saw the movie last night and noticed that.
(It was on HBO, so imagine they'll be showing it more times in the near future - check your listings.)

That rusted one in front looks like a Sears "Screamer". My brother had one.

Someone had one of those on display at the POCI convention last year in Gettysburg, PA.

I am going to have to get a Schwinn Corvette, I just got a nice 2008 Pace Car that's almost a show car, and it's always neat to display those together. Come to think of it, I need to get some pics of my Schwinn Spoiler with my 2 Vettes.

My update on getting a 20" Schwinn Non-Collectible for my old school stunt bike conversion/recreation.

The Walmart Stingrays looked real nice , and would be fine for normal cruising and doing wheelies.
But naturally not built to the old HD Schwinn specs. Pretty sure i'd break one in short time after looking them over real close.

So i got lucky this past week and old Schwinns just started falling from the sky on local craigslist with reasonable prices ...finally.
Both were built in 1982//Chicago and still have the old Extra Heavy Duty construction like the 60's and 70's.

Looks like I'm building 2 bikes now. lol
Have a decent deal lined up on a 3rd bike, but think i better stop with 2

Got a Tornado that is about 95% complete/original for $65
DT537520
Missing front number plate, and has an added speedo.
Original tires and everything else all original
Will use everything except handlebars, fenders, mid-frame Tornado plate.
Maybe put the take-offs on eBay.

These Tornado BMX's have "some" collectible value, but not big money.
$200-300 if Mint/Complete, this one might be in 200'ish range with a deep clean-detail-tune up.
I'd rather build it
This one is Totally Perfect for my old CandyAppleRed Typhoon clone

https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1594836325

Got a Bantam that is about 99% complete/original for $25
ET533628
Only missing the original hand grips.
Original tires and everything else all original
These were "convert-able" bikes that came with a color-matched upper frame bar and color matched clamps to be Boy or Girl styling.
They didn't know what happened to the old upper bar -but it was never installed.

Either going to buy an original Bantam bar and WELD it in, or fab a shaped bar and weld it in. Possible extra rigidity in the process.
These have very small value in collector sense, bring more with the "Boy Bar" intact.
But still not any kind of big money.
I'd rather build it

Might re-use everything except handlebars and tires on this Blue one.
This one might get kind of a show-ier build
Always liked the CandySkyBlue color the best back then.

Couple pictures from eBay of Bantams with the Boy-Bar intact.
It's a wild look with triple frame bars, but if its welded instead of clamped - i think it might be an actual upgrade in sturdiness.
Going for it

That Tornado is pretty cool looking, I don't remember seeing one like that, but I haven't been following the hobby in a while. It might surprise you what it would go for on Ebay if two Schwinn collectors wanted it.

Baron Von Zeppelin 07-15-2020 04:07 PM

I think they built this style Tornado BMX from 80-82
80 and 81 had a Rectangle Seat with rear seat posts for support.
82 was solo seat.
It's supposed to have a front number plate with similar graphics as the mid-plate.
Have only seen factory photos of bikes with front # plate intact.
It must have been the first item to break off on them.

This one is the most complete and original of any i could find on current or completed listings from eBay.
As far as overall pristine-ness , i would rate about low 80 %.

I might could bounce that up about 5% with a teardown and detailing.
Too much squeeze for the juice

Someone else might know for sure, but i think 1982 was last year for real deal old school heavy duty built Schwinn with the forged headmast section and forged forks - on 20" bikes.

I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and went to look at the bikes only to find that there were none. Not a single bike in the store. I asked a Wal-Mart employee about it and he said they were on back order and no date was given when any bikes would be shipped.
