Fuel Pump Comparison

Looking through the restoration catalogs at fuel pumps, most show the large bodied (bowled) pumps beginning in 1970. There is much inconsistency on whether '70-'71 was the same and then '72-'79, or perhaps '70 was unique and then '71-up was different.

Does anyone know what the difference is between these pumps? As long as the pump outlet is the same size, location, angle - that's the main thing so it will match the hardline to the carb. if the inlet and return fittings are slightly different, that is not as big a deal since they get flexible hose connected to them anyway.

Thanks!

Can't chime in on your exact question of 70 vs 71 but I'll take the opportunity to plug Spectra (the gas tank guys) pumps. I have a lot of cars so I've gone through a lot of fuel pumps. NOS is useless since they've all dried out, usually they fail soon after install. After having poor results with several brands (mostly made in the home of the virus) I tried Spectra, I've installed several in the last few years and everyone fit perfect, looks very OEM and I've had zero issues, perhaps not coincidentally they are made in Canada and the US. Not expensive either.

Thank you - I checked out their website. They offer a single large style pump for '70 and up which they refer to as the "late version". The only difference I see between the two versions is the inlet. The early version has a block attached to the pump like the outlet and the late version just has the tubing coming out of the pump. There might be subtle angle differences. I think I should be able to use this and appreciate the suggestion for Spectra.
