What car owns these emblems

Found these in a box full of old emblems, part of an old collection. Probably been in the box for twenty years. I think I have it narrowed down to 65 or 66 Bonnie or Cat. Part numbers look like factory 9780808 and 9780809.

need to see the bottom. If the back of the emblems are flat they would be for 65-66 2+2 and catalina. Mount on the fender
If the bottom is wider they are for a 66 bonneville Mount on the lower fender in the fluted chrome.

They're for 1965. The online PY parts catalog says they fit Catalinas and Star Chiefs, but doesn't mention Grand Prixs or Bonnevilles which seems kind of strange.

Edit: 65WJ's post explains it - GPs and Bonnevilles would have them mounted down on the lower chrome.

Patrick,
65 and 66 2+2 421 emblems are actually different. If you look at the back of a 65, they are flat. The 66's are beveled as they sit on the beak of the fender.

Doesn't the larger go on the fender & the smaller go on the console? '65 did not have the smaller emblem (same for console) on the fan shroud correct?

Smaller should be for all '65 big cars with console.

The 9780808 and 9780809 numbers are identified as left and right, which would indicate they go on the fenders. I think the picture is sort of an optical illusion - the one in back is the same size as the one in the front.

These are flat on back and same thickness top and bottom. 7 3/4" long and three studs sticking out.
Trying to remember where I got them. Just some of the shiny stuff you pickup at the junkyard when you was a kid.

"beveled" Thats the word I could not come up with.
Are you getting tired of bailing me out all the time? :)
I am starting to realize I spent way too much time in the 68-69 GTO section when I restored moms GTO.

No Problem!

Patrick,
I'm just glad to help someone out who wants to know.
Steve Ames pointed that difference out to me when I still had hair, almost 30 years ago. I had always thought that they were the same.

Here is a pic of those fender emblems on a 65.

wfbarto 04-11-2008 01:43 PM

Okay....let me ask another related question. We have discussed before that the 65 - 421 engine cars did not get the 421 emblem on the radiator shroud cover. But did the 65 cars with the center console get 421 emblems on them like the 66 cars did? If so, wouldn't those have to be beveled to be mounted correctly on the surface of the console?

stevep 04-11-2008 03:13 PM

Wayne,
The whole emblem is angled.

Thanks for the info everyone. Found the box while hunting a part for someone else. Thought I'd better find out before a grand kid asked; hey grandpa what did that come off of.

Thanks again
Now need to figure out where some other stuff came from.
If you know any Ford people, ask about an oval shaped aluminum air filter with 427 on it,
it fits two fours. It might need a new home.

Definitely not. People gripe all the time about my junk collection.
To me it's not junk, It's just my stuff. I've hung on to things my whole life. I've still got my first new bicycle. It's a schwinn Orange Krate and still looks like new.

Promise, no chain yanking.
I do have a bunch of stuff that I probably need to get rid of.
Don't know where to start.

stevep 04-11-2008 09:06 PM

That 427 air cleaner should be worth a few bucks if it is the real thing.
I had a 1968 Schwinn 5 speed Fastback.

Start with an E-Bay user name & password!

You can turn all that little stuff into one big expensive piece of "junk"! Keep that 20 years & repeat.

Any idea what you want for the air cleaner, I have friend that has a 63 Galaxy 500 XL Convert with 2 fours and 4 speed from the factory. Don't know if he needs it but I'm sure he would be interested.
