converting a 67 from a turbine 300 to a turbo 400
i want to convert my 67 to a turbo 400.
what interchanges and how feasible is it so that it appears stock. |
anybody ever done this?
|
th400
oem 67-69 firebird crossmember, camaros are different offset where the trans mount sits. new driveshaft, 30 spline yoke, also the kick down switch. Just common sense on how to installed it.
A th350 will be straight forward swap, except for the kick down cable, trans yoke and cross member same. |
new crossmember
new driveshaft yoke and driveline shortened new tranny mount new shifter and cable and pan bracket ........................ e brake cable ?? and hook ? |
You’re going to need a TH40 transmission crossmember and a compatible trans dipstick and tube, I used a ‘70 GP TH400 trans and dipstick assembly in my ‘68 and it was a direct fit.
Both the ST300 and TH400 use an electric kickdown switch so you just need to hook up the wire to the solenoid connector on the TH400. Driveshaft is shorter and uses a different output yoke, if you can source a driveshaft assembly from a TH400 car that will make things easy. The torque converter will physically interchange as well but you might be better off with a TH400 13” converter with a lower stall speed as compared to the ST300 unit. |
Will a ST300 converter fit a TH350?
|
Yes they all do interchange.
Powerglide converters are the ones that won’t be compatible. |
You will love the change.
